ith some care, but M Pro is heavier and built to be more durable. The manufacturer made the trade off choice.

One thing that is concerning is the choice Gong makes to deliver the foil un-tuned and making noise. Sure, I can sand it and tune it and get it right. But I have a shop, build boards and know how to use the tools. They have chosen to make it safer, with dull edges. But frankly, foiling is dangerous regardless of sharp edge on TE of the wings. If it was a question of Speed, then ok. But the foil is really noisy.

my friend must be one of the lucky ones as his Gong M Pro using the 45cm stab does not make any noise.

His first Gong foil, the Allvator however does make a loud whistle at speed.

Interesting I haven't ridden epic waves on a foil yet maybe up to 3x head. I am on shorter masts 60-70cm and getting through overhead white wash is interesting. I have seen guys talk of using long 1m type mast on large waves and I can see the point. The advantage of the shorter mast is it is harder to hit bottom, though I often have to ride through sections that even the shortest mast wouldn't prevent that. Keeping the foil at the surface is the trick for them. I think a shorter mast helps with shallow take off, but maybe not, the diameter of the wing is the main concern. I can take of in water less deep than the wing is wide but it is not the easiest.

I've been riding gong foils for 2 years. Started with the kite 65 wing and 45 stab which whistled like hell. There is a lot of information in the gong forum about how to sand the trailing edge of the wing to lower the noise.
Any way I didn't like the 65 at all, so abandoned it and switched to the surf M classic. That was a huge improvement in all aspects of stability, low end, carving and silence at last...
After unfortunate loss of the wing, I've decided to try the new pro M 69 wing and 40 stab.
Well, the enemy of the good is the better... There is almost no loss in the low end with a decisive gain in top end. This foil seems much more balanced and much more fun in free ride. No sound either.
Cheers,
Dov

I sanded down the trailing edges a lot now. Top side of front wing and bottom of stab.
I'll test it Saturday.
Comparing to my moses 633 wing, the moses profile tapers from mid chord gradually to very thin edge. The gong is thick all the way from mid chord to trailing edge, there's millimetres more thickness in last 3rd of the chord.

Ah yes, those casual days foiling at Jaws and Nazare when nobody took any pictures.

The more aggressive asymmetric Sanding I did on the wings eliminated the noise completely.
I took off about a mm of material from " top" side about 5-8mm of TE.
Really like this set up now and it's definitely a good alternative for beginning and you won't grow out of it.

Tom, could you post a few close up pics of where and how much you sanded? Thanks
