Anyone riding Gong Pro L wing to give feedback?

Postby omg » Wed Jan 29, 2020 11:26 am

Wondering if anyone has ridden the L Pro wing from Gong, please? Thinking abt it as a low wind/very small windchop-wave wing paired with 4m and 5m Peak4? Mainly if someone could provide feedback abt its agility and quickness? And best of all, if possible, to compare it to Onda 633?

Thanks again!

Omg,
You've surely seen my posts. Gong M Pro is closest comparable to moses 633. I've ridden both back to back. The L is a step bigger.

Yes, thanks, I’ve seen it, but just wanted specific info from Large Pro as I think the Large could be very nice for smaller Peaks and utilizing the very small swell/windchop.

Isn't the projected area of L pro, closer to projected area of 633?

By seeing someone only projected area, shouldn't compare , M pro->683 and L pro->633?

The M Pro is basically identical to the moses 633 in flying behaviour and speeds. It's a little faster, but has same low end.

M Pro and 683/679 are close in area and size though the Moses has a finer LE entry.

The 633 would definitely be bigger in size and area, though TomW says that they ride similar. I can't comment on that as have not ridden either one.

Wouldnt the L be more suited for wing foil with its huge size?

Correction, I take it back: The L Pro wing is around 1350 cm2 which might work as a surf wing if heavier, only 12.5 % bigger than the Onda.

The std L wing is 1900 cm2, which will be too slow for kitefoil IMO, I was mistaken about the size, and the Pro L is almost 30 % smaller than the std L.

Have about 30 sessions now on the large pro here in Fuerteventura, it’s awesome from my admittedly limited perspective. Have it paired with the 40 surf stab, 80cm mast, 4’5” Gong eps surf foil board strapless. Mostly used 6.8M Gong Unik with about 4 sessions on the 4.4 with gusts into the low 30’s. Swell is sometimes 3+ meters here and the 80cm mast is entirely inadequate but I make do. Sure the medium pro would be better in those conditions but my goal is really winging, kites I’m used to so it’s a good tool to learn foiling, just started last fall.

Today was probably the lightest I’ll be able to go in on the 6.8, prbly average about 10mph. Got lucky getting going up against the beach where it’s sometimes strongest, lasted an hour or so with a little pumping out of turns and had to down looped every turn. Couldn’t re-start further out away from the beach compression, it was probably 6-7mph. Kite would barely fly but got her in dry just looping. I’m about 90Kg too. All you have to do is get that wing going and it won’t stop until you make a mistake.

That said there was a 65Kg guy on a 14.5 blade foil kite still going on a surfboard but sure looked like more work than fun.

Hope that helps...
