i generally fly 27m lines but ill try 20 meters this weekend! to feel the diference.

flew a 10m for the first time last week in 15 knots and hated every minute of it!!even trimmed to max getting yanked at every gust.first time in the ocean i felt uneased.

Yes, the 3, 4, and 5m. Have yet to fly the 3m, but probably would in 25+. Great deal, last I looked they still had the 4 and 5m sizes.

I think the length lines would depend on how gusty the wind is; shorter for smoother non-gusty wind.

Well I’m still trying to figure this out myself and enjoy hearing what everyone is using.

One thing I might suggest is a smaller foil, I have two cloud 9 foils an x24 and x28 at 900 and 1150 sq cm respectively. It’s a nice comparison because the shapes are the same.

I get a knot or two on the high end with the smaller foil and practically no loss in low end. It’s also a bit faster and quicker turning,

7m to 4m seems like quite a jump but you could always fill it in later. I agree in general with the sweet spots already mentioned but might have a bit more top end. I’m also flying three strut kites.

I can easily go from my 6m foiling to 8m surfboard, and occasionally directly from foil to surfboard with same kite.

I’m with Peter and really enjoy having the right size kite and went 8,7,6,5 meter. 6m is my most used foil kite size. 8m my most used surfboard size.

If I can fly my 6m, I can foil although I might have to work the kite at times. I don’t really feel I gain anything and perhaps it is worse with the larger slower kites, it is however, nice to have more lift from a larger kite when switching feet in light winds.

So I agree a 10m would be a handful and for me and not needed for foiling. Although I’ve considered 10m.for lighter wind surfboard days.

If you can't decide between 4m or 5m, you might try something in between,
such as Gong Unik 4.4m (one strut)...

Even being heavier than you, I use a 10 m2 in 8-9 knots and not above that as too much
Can ride in 12 knots, but on the verge to being dragged around overpowered in and out of turns, and nothing is fun nomore

But very often needed, a 10 m2, and also bigger sizes on beautiful summerdays when wind is below 8 knots.

No way I could "live" having small kites only for foiling, like purdyd, I love the huge new territory in terms of opportunities we got with foilkitesurfing EVERY SINGLE DAY, not possible with anything else, not windfoil nor wingfoil as they need somewhat more wind
For waveboards though, I could live with having an 8 m2 as the max size, rarely use a 9 m2 in waves but it happens on occasion so nice to have, and works great on a hydrofoil in 10-11 knots.

The difference is probably, that you got very good waves for waveboards when wind is light purdyd, so understand the urge for a 9 or 10 in spots with clean swell.
Not so here... Rare at least, so I prefer to foil in the waves with a 5 or 6 m2 when wind is around 17 knots (which suits a waveboard and a 9 or 10 m2).

It is so personal with which kite size you go on the water. I recently went with my Cloud 2.8m and found that I was well powered.
Friend of mine with about the same weights the same wing size goes on the water with a 3 strut 7m and was fine going.

Sweet spot ranges for me:

10m Boxer — 8-11kn
9m WOW — 11-13kn
7m WOW — 13-15kn
5m Pivot — 15-17kn
4m SST — 17-19kn
3m Element — 20-23kn

Those sweet spots are pretty sad. Likely because I ride waves but I can hit all of them with one kite and one board, two boards brings more.
