Hi, I am about to buy a moses foil and deciding between an aluminum and a carbon mast. A carbon one would set me back about 700$ more, I am questioning myself if it's worth it?

I guess what I am trying to figure out is that apart from the weight would there be any noticeable difference in riding?

In other words, if one is given an aluminum and a carbon set in succession for a blind test ride, would one be able to tell which one is which?

Options you have are as follows:

Moses Carbon (2020 Models)
Sizes 72cm/82cm

Moses Carbon (older models)
Sizes 41cm/61cm/71cm/91cm/101cm (Most flexible)

Moses Aluminium:
Sizes 75cm

Slingshot/Ride Engine Aluminium mast with adaptor.
Sizes 46cm/61cm/71cm/90cm

Can anyone comment on which of these are the stiffest/most flexible?

I have 72cm Moses carbon mast, 61 and 90 cm Slingshot aluminum masts.
The SS masts have Jimmy Stringfellow adapters and all good.
The adapters and plate make the aluminum masts a couple of cms longer where as the Moses carbon is 71cm including the plate.
I use the 61cm aluminum mast for Windwing with Moses 873 wing and No issues.
The 90cm Aluminum mast I have used the Moses 683 wing again no issues.
The Moses 72cm mast I have used 683, 790 and 873 all good.
I foil with Cloud kites and Wasp wing mostly in Lake water with wind 7 to 25 plus kn.
SUP foil in small surf but still very early days.
The heavier aluminum masts help sink the big wings but only a bit more than the carbon mast.
In summary all good for what I do.

My 91cm Moses carbon 2018 mast has significant flex when bending and twisting it on the beach.
I believe that the 2020 Moses carbon masts (72cm/82cm) are stiffer than the previous years carbon masts.
Can you notice any difference in stiffness between the Slingshot aluminium masts and the Moses carbon 72cm mast?

Besides the weight, there are following factors to consider:
- aluminum masts (Slingshot + adapter) have more holes on mount plate which allows more option in mounting mast to various positions and boards.
- aluminum masts come in many sizes and you can interchange lengths easily and very cheap (~$100 per mast)
- aluminum masts might have corrosion issues so make sure you grease them well
- Moses aluminum mast is incompatible with most of Moses fuselages and only works with two "Alu" fuselages. My compatibility chart here viewtopic.php?p=1075851#p1075851
- Moses aluminum mast comes only in two length - 75/95cm but it's a good pair
- aluminum masts are stiffer and stronger

All that being said - I'm buying 82cm carbon mast to replace 80cm Slingshot aluminum mast with adapter to ride shallow water and no aluminum mast will replace my 105cm mast I ride in deep waters

I'm wondering whether the flex becomes a bigger issue when using huge high aspect wings like the 1100 (2100cm²)

I never had issues with stiffness, or at least I never realized how carbon feels less stiff. I also ride 1000 sq.cm and smaller wings so maybe it never came up as an issues.
The slingshot aluminum is certainly more draggy/noisy because of thicker profile.

Get the carbon, hands down. Yes it’s more money but you will end up there sooner or later

Learning. I've been foiling for a year on a Shinn P-Foil, got to a point where i can pull off most of my footswitches in the air.
I find that the p-foil starts feeling draggy so i am looking for an upgrade.

Another factor when considering an alu mast is that unless i am being wrong a moses 633/alu mast foil sinks rather than floats on its side? Which is a huge benefit in light wind as i see it.
