Strapless Foiling Roll Tacks

Postby oregonkiter » Thu Feb 20, 2020 12:38 am

Anyone got these down and remember how to get through the stage of feeling like your feet were switching on a board that was on top of marbles?

You need power in the kite, speed in the board and the key is that both never stop, they need to be in continous movement.

Kite position through the tack is key - here's something I wrote in a comment elsewhere but gives the key steps to get the kite flying correctly:
  • Try directing the kite up so it's nearly at 12 before you start carving upwind
  • Then as you carve, sheet right out, so the bar hits the stopper - this will luff the kite overhead and allow you to transfer weight forward on your front foot
  • Now step forward into the foot change - think of it like a normal foot switch, two steps - step forward, then step back
  • Sheet the bar in enough to help you as you step forward and it should pull you slightly forward if the kite is in the correct place.
  • Only pull harder with your now front hand once your feet in solid in their new positions, to direct the kite down
All the tacks hinge on getting that kite in the correct place as you enter the carve - much like the gybe, we want the kite leading us through the carve - getting it to 12 and sheeting out makes this possible but getting the kite right overhead so it will fly forward with us as we carve upwind

Hope some of that helps, I will try and pull a short video together to show the kite movement because once you see/understand the correct kite movement all the different tacks make way more sense.
