Matching kites to foils?

Postby Whattheflock » Fri Feb 21, 2020 3:57 pm

Would using a "surf kite" like a OR Roam work with a fast foil like a moses 558 for example? I guess you wouldnt go as fast or point as high upwind as with a higher aspect kite?

It will work just fine :thumb:

These wings are what we rode the first years of hydrofoiling, with our "surf style" wavekites, some wings more fat/low AR, others really fast and sleek - no issues.

The question is more like: If you have chosen this wing, is it because you want to go fast? To jump? Or to race?

If one of the first two, no issues with a surf kite.
If the latter, you wont like it.

Meaning, most who choose such a faster and smaller wing, like to use foil kites, often fast ones.
And reverse, those going for big wings, usually go for an agile kite could be a LEI very likely.

Apart from light winds, where foil kites excel on both wings of course

Right, ok thanks. That's basically what I'm after. I'm just trying plan out my next foil and kite line up.. going to switch to moses 633 w/ 91cm mast and later on add a "fast wing setup. :)
