Very old seat with dynabar here, some sewing here and there and now I'm looking for a new one, straps slipping and wearing off, but youre right with foiling almost no further wear.

You gotta survive the first few stages, but after that, kites, harnesses, lines, and most importantly *body! Will all last a lot longer for having switched to the foil.

*Those initial stages on a long mast, full surfboard mount, normal sized kite...... lets just say I'm pretty sure I scared a few people off foiling until it clearly emerged as THE way forward for light wind spots. Big wings, short masts, and the right board can spare you and our gear loads of strain.

My waste harness i bought 2nd 5 years ago just seems to keep on keeping on.

It looked worn when i bought it and since taking up HF 2 years’ ago i’m not sure if it will ever wear out! It is operating under such low loading.

I am also constantly looking at all the unnecessary sh|¥ i have dangling off me, including my ozone bar / chicken loop, and minimalist setups like Greg Drexler is making more and more sense.

On a related topic, I have had my harness fail on two different vacations where nobody could fix it. Now I always bring this handy tool called a sail makers awl. It is commonly available in sporting or sailing stores and it comes with sewing instructions that even I could follow.

Great tool, wouldn't be without one. Works equally well with dental floss and other heavy threads. The included "rope" is sometimes overkill.

Nice :thumb:

Having it break on two vacations, it looks like it was worn, eventhough it could be a manufacturing defect indeed, but most often the belt/gjord breaks where it goes around the spreader bar.
Occasionally at the sewing on the harness.

Both are usually covered in webbing/velcro thus you don't see it about to break.

Wear is also higher on seat than waist harnesses.

So in particular before traveling, check under the webbings and either have it repaired, or buy a new one for the journey (and if you want, use the old one at home in safe places)

Just a hint :naughty:
Chris knows, but many might not know they should check this, if they haven't had a harness fail yet :-?
