Build a wood board. Add thick deck pad if it does t float enough.
Use 17m cloud.

Peak is tops, Genesis > C17??

@Simone - Grazie mille per l'info! I generally go to Caorle or Sottomarina if the wind is better and time permits. Santa Croce is a bit mayhem (I like my launch space ) I'm still looking or the secret spot in the NE of the lagoon (Meno strada da sotto Treviso). After the virus, we should hook up for a ride :D :D
I never tried a c17, but i think it's better than the genesis, even than the genesis with the jackomixer.
You can try my 6m, but a 12 will be much slower.

Let's stay in contact for that ride together.

I would not plan on learning to foil with a kite that doesn't relaunch reliably. When I was learning to foil, the weirdest things happened that I couldn't have anticipated- foil wrapped in lines, me wrapped in lines, etc. I don't really ever drop a kite in the water with a surfboard, but I dropped the kite a lot when I was learning to foil

So true, happens to everyone when learning, no matter how good they were beforehand

Thanks Guys!

RE relaunch...understood. I am pretty familiar with creative relaunch requirements. Up until the C17 had been flying exclusively Peter Lynn arcs. I would generally use the policy of "keep the damn thing in the air"! It did help having a (more or less strong) autozenith. I do miss that, I have to say. : :)

A friend learned to foil with peaks, and progressed very quickly. He had excellent kite skills to start with. It made transitions much easier for him, all the time in the world to go from heel to toeside. Also much easier with the ample depower, and gentle down loops.

A kite that falls out of the sky is not good for learning to foil. That's how you get scary death loops with an inflatable, when your foil through the lines. Keep the kite in the air.

Yes that is one reason why a kite could drop...
Usually only when a bit more experienced and lower winds though.

By far the most common error is the first time some try to foil, they buckle out of the water, try to control to no avail, and forget ALL about the kite, that flies in the water either forward or rearward - it is not because the kite drops out of the sky.

Remember, beginners start with the same kite as on other boards, so lots of wind and power.

It is the sudden lack of focus on the kite, which gets it in the drink, for the very first attempts to foil.

Which is natural, as you want to stay safe meaning not get stuck in straps, nor hit the foil, many letting go of the bar to protect themselves and avoid looping - so kite is totally forgotten from this instant when you crash

Jyoder's suggestion to build your own foil deck is a good one to save money. An old TT can be a decent basic foil deck as well.

A strutless Gong kite is a good option for light wind foiling on a budget. 9m-12m size. This would be similar to your cloud in a smaller size.
I have a 12m Gong, 633 foil and am 90kg/200lbs. This gets me going in pretty light wind. I might have gone with a 10m for my midwestern/central USA inland lake conditions.

If you want to jump to a foil kite, that also makes sense.
