Moses 483 vs. 450

Postby NYKiter » Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:29 pm

They have the exact same thickness under my caliper....and pretty much the same chord...

Only 3cm and small upturned wings....really?

Will test on Wednesday...

Big difference is how those wingtips break apart on 483 upon grinding the bottom.

Also 450 seems to be pointed down some more, resulting in way more front foot pressure (or further forward stance) (or mast mount position further back)

I like 483 for being better stabilizer and I like 450 for being more damage-proof

Huge difference on those stabilizers, both in terms of lift, stability and carving.

I like to carve really hard. I can't carve on the 483 because it lacks "winglets". It slides far too much when carving. But it has really good lift and is stable, which has its place in really light winds. The 450 is by far more carvy and playful.

I love both of those stabilizers but they feel extremely different to me!

Yuk....did not like the 450...the AOA is massive...I was practically standing on the nose with the 720.... wish they could have left it flat....

bad-
450 is unstable at speed and noticeably slower when used with the 633,
and not good at all for boosting even leading to crash outs just before take off if really loading up fast and hard, horrible!

good-
450 is fantastic in lower winds in the waves, carves deep and hard, so much fun that is very noticable.

conclusion
if your using all foot straps and pushing for speed and boosting fully locked down, and want great acceleration then the 483 is a must use, not bothered and ride strapless, then the 450 maybe is best.

but one 15minuite session will not reveal the upsides and downsides, it took me near two days to fully understand what was happening, and find out why my boosting ability had suddenly gone in reverse, and speed runs had gone from totally smooth and stable quickly hitting maximum speed without worry or wobble, to trying to keep from crashing out due to severe instability which just got worse the harder i tried to push through it, which became impossible even making me jump off a few times to check for weed on my wings and mast.

Marmite wing for me.

I think I managed to crack winglets of every 483 I had before and that’s why I consider winglets pointed up a significant benefit.

To reduce drag and improve speed I’m shimming 450 to point it up by 2 degrees or so. Riding strapless, I can push the setup to ride fast

that's exactly what I did,
but not 2deg, that is huge.
.6deg shims, so .6deg/1.2deg/1.8deg.
1.8deg made it really bad,
1.2deg worked slightly better.
I settled on .6deg as the best feeling.

but guess what?
yep!
sold it.
483 with easy chippy wing tips for me.
round them off by a good bit, they are too pointy and sharp, and I even think the wing is slightly better as a result.
