Buying advice: starting foiling - moses 633 or Cabrinha Carve?

Postby ako » Tue Apr 28, 2020 7:42 pm

Hi all,

Need some help deciding on a starter foil: local shop has a good deal on cabrinha hirise carve + double agent, but moses 633 + t38 is only slightly more expensive. What is best choice? Seems everyone is very positive on the moses, not many cabrinha reviews...
Goal is to get more days on the water with low wind, play in the waves. Currently have one kite + one board (airush wave 9m + north whip) for low wind, usually go windsurfing 20+ knots. (was kitesurfing only for a few years, but missed windsurfing).
I usually choose strength of equipment over weight, so that's why the cabrinha set looks interesting.

Thanks,
Andrej

Tucker at Mackite sells both and has ridden both. He'd be a good one to ask.

The Moses gear has a very good range of interchangeable wings, stabilisers, masts etc which makes it hard to pass up compared to the Cabrinha. No problem with strength of equipment with Moses either.
Moses has been making quality foils for years with many happy users and I'm one of them.

Both are good options. Both have a large area surf wing.

Cabrinha pluses: More affordable shorter mast options. The board's rounded nose will be more friendly on touchdowns to the water surface after being up on foil. Board can be used as a directional surfboard without the foil.

Moses pluses: Awesome setup. I have the 633 and love it. Does it have the carbon mast? Big plus.

If you are a quick learner and can take a few falls in the learning process, get the moses because that is what you want in the 2nd year of foiling.
If you want a more gentle learning process, get the double agent and a half mast.

683 Moses has been the easiest and ongoing fun wing for me.
I am at the best an intermediate kite foiler at 73 yo and 76 kg.
I have Moses 683 for kite, 790 kite and wing plus SUP foil, 873 and 1100 Wingfoiling and SUP foiling.
My least favorite is the 873.

Get the Moses.
Cabrinha wings are cracking due to quality problems, plus the moses are much more flexible due to the amount of options you have.

Off topic, but I'm determined to discover the sweet spot for that 873!
