Foil Riding stance, bean pole vs poo stance

Postby Jyoder » Thu Apr 30, 2020 12:05 am

Which way do you ride the most and why?

1. Standing up pretty straight with weight over the board, relaxed with minimal kite pull on the harness, lightfooted on board, kite mostly low power, cruising and carving. Kite high.

2. Weight deep in the harness, heavy kite pull, board heeled over, maxing upwind or downwind angle, blasting into turns with heavy foot pressure on board. Kite low.

Well, I'm a #1. I like to ride relaxed and fluid.... avec beaucoup finesse. No racey poo stance for me. :thumb:

But please don't call me a "bean pole"! I mean think about it. You're asking people to choose between "bean pole" and "race stance"?!! Who (besides people like me, too old to give a damn any way) are going to choose "bean pole"?

I suggest a new moniker for #1. Something catchy. Something that says "I'm relaxed in the saddle and I can ride this rocket ship in any direction except down! I am the king! I am the truth! I am a rock star!"

I am a #1; I ride my FoilShip in the "Clapton Stance". 8)

Surf stance. Feet wider than shoulder width, Centre line of the board, bent knees, upright. Never poo stance.

Bean pole for covering distance or heading upwind.

Sitting back knees bent, strapped down, when driving hard upwind pushing for maximum angle without losing speed is such a good feeling,
but this feeling is matched when you release that locked in stance to glide along at full speed off the wind, with all the grace of a ballet dancer, light on the feet knees flexible head up high, back straight and smiling like a loon.

Oh no no, my friend, you don't know what your looking at! That aint poo stance. C'mon now, any decent foiler knows at a glance thats is a quick carve into a tack and not a straight line riding posture.

Lets try a game. Remember Sesame Street. Sing along now..... one of these thing just doesn't belong here, one of these things just isn't the same.....

Here are a few photos. A few poo stance riding posture, one an entry into a tack. let's see if yo can spot the difference.

P.S. neither is actually that appropriate for pooping...... that posture my friend, is a squat.
