Gong Std or Pro to start

Hi Foilers!

Sorry, I'm sure this has been beaten to death.

Foil Newb (ride strapless homemade directional junk), 93kg naked, kiting since 2002. Too few sessions per year. Sensitive to budget.

Looking for the quickest path to get up and foiling. Not overly interested in speed but seeking light wind (10->>8/7 kts) as I get more proficient.

Would love to use for eventual wing / sup / downwind (with a bigger wing). Would love to get my girls up sup foiling on the right board (with my kite wing).

So, Std (Rise) M, or Pro (curve) M/L? .... mast length 65 or 80? ...... stab 40 or 45?

The guys from Gong suggest to not use anything bigger than Curve M for kiting, i also plan to buy a beginner package, probably i will get this one in size M

I have both the Rise and the pro M.

The Rise is easier to learn on, no doubt about that.
It rises immediately and you can go from really slow up to a decent speed. It is also very good to learn gybing on, you can go very slow before it stalls and you have time to sort out foil and kite through the maneuver. The profile is thick and more forward. It will suit beginner to medium foiler. It is possible to to reach good speed but you can feel the resistance.

The pro M needs some speed to get up and foil on and do not have as low stall speed than the Rise. Pro M has less resistance and you can reach higher speed and glide longer with speed. Profile and thickness is medium.

For me the Rise was perfect to start with and I still use it.
The Pro M is a little bit more demanding because you need some speed to keep flying through maneuvers.
I think it is perfect for the medium to advanced foiler.

The [Rise] M has a wingspan of 70 cm for a (projected) area of 1258cm2
The [Curve] L has a wingspan of 77 cm (projected) area of 1227cm2

...hence the "L" question... Maybe a bit more overall versatility (inc. lighter sup users).

mast - is it worth a 65 to learn. We do have lots of shallow water around (and again for small suppers)
stab - 40 or 45?

I was riding a moses 633 wing 2 years and that's a great learning wing. Then I switched to the gong pro m. The low speed limit is negligible. Stability the same. Should be easy to learn on it.
The rise must be even slower than the moses 633.
Personally I would go for the pro m as a beginner unless you are super tentative. Also, I believe that with a 65cm mast for the first 10 hrs it would be really easy on pro m. Then switch to 90 cm mast and you are set for several years or permanently.
