@Qiter spot on. Hopefully he'll come out with a banger video some day.

@jumptheshark
sounds like the next logical&stylish step forward (as in the new snippet of fred hope, with a super extended grab) any footage of your grabs online? When the wind is around 18-20ktns+ (7m² and smaller kites wind) I feel that I can extend my regular airs a lot more with pushing the board into the wind and up (body more sideways, beneath the board) and actually pulling on the bar after depowering first to get the initial height and stay connected with the board. I do like to whip the foil more around on toeside airs, too. Which is nice for airs in foil "waves" where it feels like jumping forwad.
Have not landed a clean 360 shuv it yet, but seems doable after some interesting foil rig flying and spinning around attempts.

@TomW
find a nice protected "training spot" with flat water,no current, super steady wind and embrace the failing. You will progress fast. The more compentend I feel on my manouvers the more I love to fail and try new things (especially when it is warm under the suit like it is at the moment). don't overthink when trying something new...

Biggest key to progression is having no aversion to falling. Plenty of people have this aversion and it stagnates progression big time. Am riding nearly daily this summer and am falling as much as I did as a beginner. Water is warm right now and its time to get those failed attempts in. This is the progression part of the season for me. Eventually when it begins to cool I scale back to sharpening the things I know I can ride away from, but right now is the time to flail at things I have no real hope of landing yet as to at least get the rough mechanics and timing figured out.

My problem is that we don't have those conditions anywhere. Rarely I can get straight south wind and I know a few spots that are flat.

It's ... harder ... than it looks
Am I the only one "seeing" a joke here where there is none? :lol:

I'm still trying to get the normal tack sorted--i.e., the one where you turn your back to the wind through the move. I usually fly underpowered, and I never learned how to do this on a directional board before foiling, so this move is taking me a long time to get. I still touch down more often than not, but I'm getting close.

Next up is strapless airs. I'm reading JTS's thread on it. Good stuff.

@TomW
don't worry have learned most manouvers in chaotic baltic sea chop conditions at my local beach, that most kiters, don't even consider a spot. I guess that is why I enjoy kitefoiling so much, always something to try no matter how "bad" the conditions seem. Maybe try to wear a to warm suit and you will want to crash a lot, for sure :D try to embrace the beginner mindset.

@junebug
the satisfaction when mastered the tacks will be even higher under these circumstances :thumb:.
yeah good info by him.

Just had some "good" foilwave conditions with small barely breaking "waves" over a long sandbank. conditions that most surfboard rider/kiters can only do a turn to get on the wave and then sink...this year more foilers joined the fun and we played around and tried to do as many turns on these "waves" as possible (trying to get fast with small carves or slowing down to get more radical based on the waves height, speed and how they break). Felt like the recent foilsurf videos look but with even more radical turns due to our more agile kitefoils and way longer "rides" since skipping flater sections is so much easier with a kite. adding some jumping and flailing around in between "sets" to round up these perfect conditions. Getting more comfortable in reading these waves and how the want to be ridden with the foil each year. Still see lots of potential for this kind of conditions from the kitefoiling perspective.

Yeah right, unbelievable how much fun you can milk out of these low period small choppy baltic swells on a kitfoil.

Since this has popped back to the top, I can show off my progress on roll/duck tacks I guess (with front straps):
