Same Problem here....

I switched sun screen. Now using Swox. 50
Super sticky, stays on all day.
Actually happy with it!

I always use a large base Cap.

Started using sunglasses.

There is one guy on the hydrofoil Pro tour with always some cloth covering the entire face. His new solution with absolute no skin visible looks super good. Maybe someone knows who he is, so I could contact him.

BTW. After two „dislocated rips“ I started wearing an impact Vest....

I guess I look like an absolute „donkey“ on beach🤷‍♂️

a large brimmed hat, can be used with a (little over sized) helmet. Style points zero but I don't care what other people think how do I look :D

I feel dump for never thinking of this, I might go and try the Swox. 50 that Simon adviced.

Search eBay for uv neck gaiters or facekini if you want the gimpish look, worth doing the latter for the laugh! I very occasionally use a uv neck gaiter and they are fairly comfortable and are easy to pull off the face if required. Breathing restrictions is not bad and not a problem for normal riding.

Just make sure you get the brownish colour.

There also is a white one, but the brown one is like some dry glue, special made for Nose, forehead, and cheeks. This is the one you want.

I guess you can use any Zink sunscreen made for surfing. The neutrogena Zink stuff seems to be „pretty extreme“ (so actually good ) as well .

Just to compare: I have always used Nivea 50 (really thick - and still getting tanned and red face and really dark back of hands). the Swox compared is like contact cement, no more getting red in the face... but really sticky and hard to get of with soap. I like it .

I've found that the face coverings (facekini, balaclava or whatever you want to call them) are hard to breath through once they get wet. I use No-Ad SPF 50 Sport sunscreen that lasts all day. Probably any 50 SPF waterproof sunscreen will do the trick. I wear a hat and sunglasses so I don't have to put sunscreen on my cocopelao and it doesn't get into my eyes.

Any creative ideas? I use a helmet, that protects at least a big part of the head.

Two face protections that seem to be very well thought out for watersports are Headpeace and Solshaka.

https://solshaka.com

Both have a vented panel to allow for breathing. The Solshaka may be the better of the two when using with a helmet.

Another option could be a hooded rash guard like the ones from Xcel. A combo of a hooded rash guard and mask would offer the most head protection.

Has anyone tried making their own zinc oxide type sun block?
The commercially available ones that I have used feel a lot like applying epoxy cement to your face both in application and removal and it is annoyingly expensive.
thx

Haven't found anything better than this, www.bluelizardsunscreen.com Stays on a long time in the water and doesn't feel sticky or thick. Another great benefit is that it doesn't sting your eyes.

Neoprene face mask with air holes for your mouth and nose. Hat, glasses and wetsuit for everything else.

Any fabric mask will not let air through once it's wet. The Buff Insect one with the holes might be different.

You can buy neoprene masks with holes for about $10, or make yourself one out of an old wetsuit.

It's easy to sew your own mask out of neoprene on a domestic sewing machine. Just butt two pieces of fabric together and sew them with a wide zigzag stitch.
