First foil setup

Postby lavueltalmundo » Tue Dec 01, 2020 7:32 pm

Hi guys,

Just getting started at foiling with the kite and I'm a bit unsure if I'm shooting myself on the foot with this mast set-up considering I'm just starting to foil (beginner).

I have a 4'2 board Liquid force with a 78cm mast. However, I'm not too sure in which position to place the mast (I currently have it in 5). I know the mast is quite high for beginner, but so far it has been ok.

Any advice would be appreciated!

As far back as it will go. Foiling has more front foot pressure than you're used to on TT. More aft foil=less front foot pressure required. Moving mast forward will have the opposite effect.

I have mine all the way back so I can slightly shuffle my front foot out of the strap I have there to avoid having it trapped there in a crash, which I did once and hurt it badly.

i have an impulse 4'9" galaxy set up with a 94 cm mast. As said, slam the mast to the very back and lose the straps if you have not yet. If you are already getting up don't worry about the mast size and work on riding in different mast heights, just because you have a tall mast does not mean you have to be sitting high on your foil. That was a big mistake i had last spring especially when I decided to really focus on it. For foot position, i see a lot of people riding super wide, i prefer to ride with me feet closer together. Back foot sits right above the mast, front foot is before or around where the closest setting is for the front strap, almost shoulder length apart, stand comfortably on the board not feeling like your about to drop a deuce. I drive the board with my hip being above my front foot to stay level. thats my .02

Thanks guys, I have got my foot caught on the front foot strap in some crashes and had the foot strap in the medium set-up so probably going to push it back further.

I'm still finding myself in terms standing up instead of having a "shitting" position

If you want straps but do not want to risk injury use foot hooks .
