Adapt Moses 683/679 For kite fuse

Postby duckypoos » Wed Dec 23, 2020 9:19 pm

Has anyone tried adapting a surf wing to fit the kite fuselage, I have an old 683 and wondering if a bit of filling and reshaping of the connection area would be worth the effort just for the hell of it ??

I used an adapter to attach 679 to kite fuselage. It worked well and I’m debating getting 950 wing for superlightwind days. Otherwise 800 or 1000 wings would do the trick

Of course it can be done, with the right tools and basic know how.
I have grafted on a gong front medium wing to a moses kite fuse, it worked well,
the most important bit of kit you need is a Wixey digital angle gauge and vernier caliper, both cheap off ebay. this is to get the precise upward angle right, which needs measuring whilst on its standard surf fuse, guessing its around 2.3 degrees up.
hard work with a good set of files to get the shape right on the fuse, that anodised aluminium kite fuse is flipping hard material to file into shape, but it can be done with lots of patience.
do the screw holes line up? most likely not, so a 6mm tap set will be needed, don't worry about going right through the fuse to get a good thread depth, the wing can hang over the front of the fuse a little if need be,
but this job is not easy if your a muppet with a screwdriver, but it would be fun and at the same time educational, what I mean is you can laugh your head off whilst shouting out loud "I am never doing this again"
honestly it can be done, but its a pain to get right without access to a milling machine or proper little workshop.
an adaptor off stringfellow would be cheaper and much easier

I did the reverse ie, kite wing (W1000) to surf fuselage.
I made an adapter/spacer out of wood then coated with epoxy.
I needed to drill and tape new holes in the fuselage.
This was to be temporary to see if it worked.

Ultimately I bought a kite fuselage as shorter and saved constant changing parts.

I made a custom fuselage from a square aluminium bar to fit a Moses 633 to a Mast I already had and a Stabiliser that I made so yes it I'm sure it can be done. Getting the shape of the front wing perfectly into the aluminium starting from nothing was a real challenge. I enjoy doing that kind of stuff in the winter when the weather is bad, it's up to you if you want to dedicate the time necessary to do it!

Another option is to buy the Moses fuselage to wing adapter plate.

This allows you to use your kite fuselage with surf wings or vice versa. Lowers the expense, travel weight, and bulk in your kit.

Hi grig. Is there any difference in the feeling of the ride with e.g the 633 when using the surf fuse and kite fuse with adapter?
