I have a carbon foil and carbon board I built myself and use a pad or shim I made of 1.5mm automotive cork/rubber gasket. Seemed like a good idea, works fine.

I observe very minimal wear on board and mast plate connection after years of use so I don’t bother getting a pad. Would rather have mast plate sit flush on flat firm surface without any spring action below it.

I cant stand the thought of something rubbing and scratching on the board.

So on my (latest baseplate on a wingfoil, hate these things and try to avoid them) I cut an old writing pad (a mouse pad would also do) to fit, and outdoor contact cement to fix it firmly to the baseplate, works like a charm.

Can not stand the sound of sand rubbing on a neat board surface - maybe just me

I cut a pad out of an ikea placemat and stuck it to the bottom of an aluminium base (to protect a carbon board).

I have also used an extra-thin polyethelene cutting board for the same purpose

Edit: just realised how funny it is for the guy from Sweden to be pimping Ikea

I use rubber from old truck tire inner tube. They are slightly thicker than the ones for cars ( about 2mm) and my local tire shop throws them away...

There is also a thick rubber insulating tape used for electric insulation. A couple of layers of duct tape might do the business too.

I have a pad under the mast foot cut out fron rubber shower liner from home depot. I noticed abrasion and paint rubbing off of my slingshot dwarfcraft after 3 seasons of very frequent use with couple of hard groundings and marine wildlife collisions.

You can easily form a thin gasket between the mast base and your board with strips of common electrical tape on your mast base. Electrical tape does not degrade in water..
