Foil in the lines nightmare!

Postby richy-c » Sun Feb 07, 2021 11:27 am

Recently as im improving on the foil ive become braver going out more often in stronger winds with smaller kites and carving around in swell. Ive recently had the foil in the lines a couple of times within the last 20 sessions when falling off the board in fast carves leading to a quick release and floating to shore (once a full release as kite was in deathloop mode) It happens so fast I dont see whats happening. Im assuming the board is kicking up and landing in the lines when the kite is low. Is this 2 in 20 sessions hit rate normal or could I be doing something wrong?

Perhaps calm things down a little. I've only put the foil into the lines three times in three years.

Learn to crash
Try dragging off the front of the board so it stuffs
instead of flying up in the air

You gotta learn to crash. Well that’s my advice as someone who crashes a lot. I have some of my attention on the board and how much or little control of its direction I have while crashing. Make the board ditch or get clear are how I think of it. Some foil set ups are worse than others in this regard.

I think my board is possessed. i have watched it stop, reverse direction, and accelerate towards my lines.

Has not happened in a few years... but, a couple times in light wind I was able to gently water relaunch and bring the kite up which caused the board to slide back down the lines for me. Then drop the kite in the water and sort out the trap. Only works in super light winds.

Had my foil in my lines many times.

The one time I couldnt get it out I body dragged into shore and flew with the foil hanging off the bar and landed it.....
