I've no idea what the actual top speed of the Mirage Carbon 1000 is but it's noticeable quicker than the Apollo 60 (I've ridden that before and yes it's pretty stable but not quick by any means). The MC1000 can feel pretty fast (relatively) if you push it and it's stable, great for foot changes etc. I also ride the Mirage Carbon 800 which is that little bit quicker, very similar feel, and I ride this when I have good power as it's a little easier to handle at full speed. The 1000 is more versatile as it's way easier to ride when a bit underpowered - both lightwinds and if you like to ride a smaller kite less powered as it gets stronger. I can't see you being disappointed upgrading to the MC1000 from the Apollo.

Awesome, thanks for the insight. I might have an option to demo one, so I'll try that asap.

with the mirage 1000, i made 22.5 kt with a 15 meter kite. there was only 8 kt of wind.
I think i can go faster...

@robclaisse
Would you rather recommend a mirage 1000 or mirage 800, for a 60kg guy who wants to progress, and most of the time rides with small 6m kite.
Tried the 1000, loved it, but still hesitant, as the wind picks up, I`m unable to "tame" it, the foot pressure becomes unbearable. Maybe I`m doing something wrong. :-?
Thanks.

If you want to progress, keep the 1000 mirage, and later the 800...

Maybe I wasn`t clear enough. I don`t actually own any of those two, I just tried it.
I am thinking of purchasing one of those two, and since I didn`t try the 800 only 1000, hence the question.
Cheers.

At your weight either will work. My partner is a similar weigh and loves the Mirage Carbon 1000 but she generally rides with light to moderate power. You can definitely ride more powered up on the 1000 but you will have to be more aggressive with your technique to drive the foil forward - often this means adjusting your stance depend on how power up your are how faster you are try to go. I cruise around with my feet reasonably wide but if I want to handle more power/lift/speed I shift my feet really wide to give me better control (on my 110 board, that means back foot right at the back and front foot right on the nose).

The 1000 will make it easier to learn and complete things like the tacks and foot changes, making mistakes, losing speed but still staying dry. The 800 will be slightly less forgiving and you'll want an extra 1-2 knots of wind for any given kite size.

Ultimately both will work great and you just need to be open to being more dynamic with your body and kite position to handle the lower and higher end of your kites wind range.

How would the Mirages compare to the Slingshot Phantasm 657?

/edit
I’m reading up on the alu/carbon mast topic. What are the F-one offerings like? How do they compare in term of stiffness? I would like to go all carbon, but starting out on alu might be an easier sell to the GF... :roll:

The f-one aluminum is stiffer and heavier than the carbon.
