The 170 will also be missed for kiting!

Heres the press release:
https://liftfoils.com/lift-foils-2021-s ... ect-masts/

Looks like the 300 is intended for beginner efoil. Tough to discern the differences between v1 and v2 from the memo.

They mention that the fuselage has been extended on the stabilizers. I wonder if these new components (wing and stab) are compatible with v1 or not.

Hmm. My original topic opening post got deleted, not sure why.
There was a picture of all 2021 wings and stabilizers and note that 250HA will be missed

170 still exists in Classic version
https://liftfoils.com/foil-wings/

And I have a new 170 Fish for sale if anyone wants one

I think the new 250 Surf V2 very much resembles the 250HA from last season. As stated before, the 250HA was more mid-aspect. Without dimensions it is hard to tell.

The 300 Surf looks very interesting for teaching wing foiling. Coupled with a large tail it would be very stable.

The 300 Surf could possibly be used by itself as a mono-foil for kiting or winging.

I would imagine all the new tail wings would be backward compatable with previous front wings. Poor business model if not...

I confirmed that they are going to continue making the 250 HA and it will be unchanged from 2020 to 2021. Also, all surf and HA wings and tails are forward and backward compatible.

Looks like Lift now has the classic wings listed again on their website. I wonder how the new Surf 150 compares to the Classic 170?

Aside from the classic being one piece and the surf being 2-piece... comparing the the previous generation 170 classic to the 170 surf, the 170 surf had more anhedral and was constructed slightly beefier. That made the surf slightly turnier than the classic, but overall very similar. The surf is also heavier due to construction and 2 piece design, but Im not sure whether that weight is perceivable while riding.

I haven't ridden the 150 surf, but I think the comparison to the classic 170 is probably the same as what I described, with the 150 having slightly less lift and a higher stall speed due to the smaller size.

Also, unless they changed it for this generation, the 170 classic rear stabilizer is probably closest to the surf 48.

150 classic vs 150 surf

Postby watercamper » Tue Mar 02, 2021 12:40 am

Can someone tell me the differences (or perceived or expected differences) between the Classic 150 and the Surf 150 V2 (or earlier)? Pls include comments on the stab. I keep emailing Lift. No response. I call. And ALWAYS get someone who doesn't know AND can't find someone that does. (OK - rant over - sorry).

Also, I'm interested in knowing the difference between the Classic 110 and the 100 Surf and 120 HA. It appears the 110 is gone. Sorry, I'm still new to a lot of this and reading and asking questions. But, I have to say that I love the Classic 150 for kiting at my light weight!

I hope I didn't hijack the thread. Just trying to get more Lift info. Love the product!!

Hey watercamper,

In general, the V1 Surf series (with the exception of the 200 Surf) have the wingtips curved down a bit more. This means the Surf series will provide a bit more lift when turning / carving and is a bit more stable through the carves. Another significant difference is the Surf series are two-piece wings (whereas the Classic series is a single piece front/rear/fuselage), so you can swap the tail wings on the Surf series for different sizes. When I spoke to Lift earlier this year, I was told the 200 Surf was based on the 200 Classic - as in almost identical - so this is the one exception to my understanding. Which series is better? They are both great wings, so you can't go wrong.

Now enter the 2021 V2 Surf series which is an entirely different wing from the V1 Surf series. Disclaimer: I've yet to ride a V2 Surf wing but I have ridden their high aspect series. The V2 2021 Surf series was re-designed to be more high aspect than the V1 Surf, so it's going to be a completely different feel (faster, more efficient, but less stable in general).

Hope this helps.

I recently got a Surf 200 V1, not knowing what to expect. Would it be too big for kiting? Would I have enough leverage on my pocket board to hold it down? Will it turn as tight as my Surf 170 V1?

It did not disappoint. Top speed is around 20mph, a bit slower than the Surf 170, and no problem holding it down on a 32" Kanaha board. It carves just great; I can really lay it over in the turns, and it is more stable than the Surf 170 (much more control from breaching). Stall speed is ridiculously slow. Comical even ("I stayed on foil in that turn in this light wind???"). This is all with a 50 tail. I'll try a 40 tail soon.

40 stab will feel like it results in higher lowend.
I stopped worrying about turning capabilities of medium-high aspect wings. They all have been turning excellent for me, even with increased roll stability
