ah yes,,, in fact my idea was to put a small hanging tag line on that mini rope and onto the ring,,,,not the greatest plan but the last time my rope broke, the bar got yanked out of my hands and i didn't have it set up suicide so it went to safety, long story short, kind of a mess,,, would rather not have to repeat, i now have it set up semi-suicide to avoid that bit again. but i like your idea, will keep it in mind

papa,
You can try 7/64" dyneema for your backup. It is just under 3mm diam so you may be able to slot it thru the existing hole. I use them for steering line pigtails. They are 1400 pound strength so in case your 3/16" main line breaks you don't have to worry at all. Just make sure you tie a large knot behind the hole.

I use two O rings for backup reasons. I rode a chicken loop for a winter season without wear. Now I use a wichard 2673 instead of the CL. I use the rings from West Marine that are 1" ID and 1/4" wire diameter, making the entire ring OD at 1.5".

i happen to have some of that size,,,i am not sure if it will fit thru the same hole but will check it out. should be able to get me back at least

Splice a 5mm dyneema rope into another 5 mm dyneema ropa and use that. Once you have worn through the outside of the first rope it is time to change.
exactly what I did for my buddies single line rope slider, used heavily many times a week for the last year, works well, makes a very thick and strong slider rope,
overkill but stress free

good god! untying the rope on this mystic bar so i can slide on a smc ring is ridiculous,, it would be simple if whoever put it on in the first place would have left more than 2mm of tail in the knot.

yes, one slider rope breaking was enough for me. but are you saying you drilled 2 new holes in a mystic slider bar? it looked problematic to me

Sure, here is a photo. Don't mind the sand
That dyneema line in the photo literally has another 5mm dyneema line running inside for the full length. So it is nice and neat and protected inside the outer line. Once the outer line is worn through (Easy to see this way), the inside line is still there giving full strength backup.
I have only managed to wear through lines using slider rings (Low friction rings, lol), had to replace about twice a year usually. But haven't managed to wear though yet using a pulley (1.5 years and still no real visible wear).

does the protective sheath just end or does it go into the weave of the underlying rope? if not,, when not using a pulley but rather a climbing ring,, doesn't it move the protective sheath back and forth?
