Hello- I've found several reviews on the forum on the AV8 kite comparing it to a newer Velocity but couldn't find any comments on the foil / board. I know Cabrinha was trying to get it going as its own racing class, but how well is it built and how does it actually ride?

I haven't ridden one, but was looking at one on the beach the other day, and there's nothing about it that looks particularly remarkable. I personally wouldn't buy one unless I wanted to race it one design, but that never seems to have taken off. I think there are better race foils.

Is it a good deal? Its not a top race foil, but it is a nice, stiff, fast foil. Its based on the delta race foil.

I've seen a few demo AV8 board/foil combos come up lately for several hundred less than the price of a new full carbon Moses or Slingshot foil only. While I'd love to race someday (came to kiting from 505/laser sailing), I don't see myself having the time to put into racing to justify buying a mikes lab or anything like that soon. I have been thinking about getting a more freerace style foil to be able to use with my current board (plate, so would be Moses 637 or Ghost Whisperer), so I could blast around and maybe get on a racecourse a few times here and there. The AV8 demos seemed like they might be a good option for this at a lower cost, though it would mean storing another board.

Definitely sounds like a good fit for what you are looking for.
I was on a Spotz 2 before I got the Delta foil that the AV8 was based on. I had been trying to learn foiling jibes on the Spotz 2 for a year, but still only landing 1 out of 10. First session on the Delta I was landing most of the foiling jibes. It was so much more stable and user friendly than the older race foils.
The AV8 has a slightly thicker mast, so I've heard it's even stiffer than the Delta foil I had.
