Slingshot Phantasm 730 vs 657

Postby IDAVIS » Thu Mar 11, 2021 5:54 pm

Hello

I currently have a phntasm 633, but would like to have another wing with more speed.

I'm thinking between 730 and 657 phantasm

differences?

the 730 and 657 wing work well with the 633 fuselage?

Big thanks

They’re compatible with same fuselage

Not many people have them yet. I've talked to Slingshot team riders who say that the top end speed on both is pretty similar, but the 657 is more "carvy" and the 730 is more stable.

I’m 210+ lbs and I enjoyed move off 590 to 695 and later to 800 wings for additional lowend. I can feel additional roll stability on higher aspect wings too, yet I feel no difficulties/resistance when making turns.
That being said, I love how smaller 637 race wing flies - thinner profile delivers additional cruising speed and flying fast is fun, even though you gotta maintain speed to stay on the foil in turns.

I ride them all on 90cm long board, so touching water is not helpful, I prefer not to

Hey there,

I have the 730 set up and have fitted the Moses version of the 633 onto the 102 mast and 653 fuse to see what the 633 is like. I must say I'm impressed how good the 633 is I've never ridden one, if the phantasm 633 is as good or better Ill be stoked when mine arrives.
I've been foiling strapless for 3 years, riding a 100 cm pocket board.
I think I've had the 730 out maybe 4 times now. I'm blown away how much lift it creates, dialling in the mast position has been tricky. I ride in bay here in Queensland and we often have sizeable wind swell knee to waist high. The 730 takes a bit more skill to ride, but once you adapt to the stall point its a great ride, I find the front foot pressure hard to counteract, but hey I've only had 4 sessions.
The speed..... its quick but hard in choppy conditions, its upwind angle is better than many foils. I think I clocked 19 knots on the second session, but the day before I clocked 19.6 knots on the 633.

Do I like it more than the 633.....yes and no they are very different rides. I found the 633 a little boring, where as the 730 is a little more on edge.

I'd like to try the 730 on the 710 fuse to see the difference. should be able to review that as I ordered one with my Phantasm 633 wing.

I was concerned it wouldn't turn that quickly or tightly but I'm happy to say that's not the case the 730 is very agile. I was getting 360's on the first session.

I think it a wing that will improve your foiling skills for sure if you want to push your foiling to knew places get the 730. for me the 633 will be for swell ridding on very windy days.

not sure if this helps.

19 knots is a pretty disappointing speed for that 730 foil, though I assume you'll get faster with practice.

19 knots is not the top speed its just that where I have been kiting there is significant chop which makes it a bit harder to really put the hammer down. That was only my 4th session on it too, I expect it to be way faster than that.

More experiences with SS 730 or SS657?

Which it is faster?

Thanks

@granit02: Checking in on your assessment of the 730 vs. 633? I've got a lot of time on the 633 and just took delivery of the 730, but have been skunked since. I was told it is faster and surfier, and delivers more lift. I'm looking forward to feeling that for myself.

One reason I went for it is to see if I can get away without adding a larger kite. I fly Peak4s and am contemplating adding the 8m to my 6m & 4m to get more low-wind range without compromising too much on the benefits of the Peak4. Limitation with the 6m is just getting up (once up I'm good) reliably in 10-11kt. Am hoping the larger foil will kick in to gear with less kite oomph in those lazy seabreeze days.

Joel,
Are you talking about the PFI730? if so then the answer is yes you will have an extended wind range over the 633. If you are talking about the PTM730, then you will either need to get more out of your power stroke on the Peak 6 or add the 8 m. The PTM730 is the higher aspect wing, I find it harder to get up on in light wind, it of course needs a little more forward speed (not much compared to the 633) to get up on the plain.
