If they banned non-foiling boards it would get rid of the crowds.

It is pretty simple if you are a kook, keep the lineup safe and dont be there.

I was surfing last week and a foiler drop in, in line with me quite far away paddling out, wobbles ( oh shit), look nervous as sh1t, can barely control the thing ...?unwanted... go somewhere else.

Same for any other craft, it is just a foil is way more dangerous by design to hit.

Banning is dumb IMO, surf spots manage to self regulate pretty well. Kooks don’t last long.

Sure you want to compare the dangers between small plastic fins and a 90cm long alu or carbon mast attached to possibly 90cm wide frontwing + pointed stabelizer? Of course fins can be sharp and dangerous in some cases with a bit of bad luck, but c'mon, you can't compare this to the dangers of hydrofoils and the way they flip around and glide further if someone wipeouts!

That Article is so full of wrong and outdated information. The incident in 2016 involved him getting stiches, but to his forehead and it was not a "cut" per se. The skin split from the impact. What we in Germany call a Platzwunde.
The guy in question also responded to Jamie Mitchels first article to clarify that it was his own fault and that the condition where not suitable for him to be learning on.

In my almost 5 years of Surf and Supfoiling the only time I have been cut during a session is by other people surfboard fins (which are way sharper than the leading edges of a surf foil)

The writer of the the article should be fired for his lack of research and for spreading misinformation.

By mentioning 90cm it is obvious that you do not Surffoil or Supfoil. But trust me. I have been surf and supfoiling for almost 5 years now. I would rather be hit by a Foilboard than a Surfboard or Supboard. I hit myself with my own foil at least once a session. The Edges of the Surf Foils are round and cannot cut you, you are assuming that we are surfing with kitefoils. Also in a wave the Foilboards do not flip around. The foil keeps the board level and the foils stays underwater. They sometimes can flip when they reach the end of the leash. The do not fly around like Surfboards do. All my serious cuts in the last years surffoiling have been from being hit by surfers boards.

Lets all pull into big barrels on our foilboards instead of our surfboards - like our French Polynesian friend who wasn't scared (he was) - it's safer!

I heard rumors, that the guy in the video flipped in five years supfoiling for the first time his foil out of the water. Usually it stays calm below the surface :-)
Other rumors told me that a lot of people sup- and wingfoil with longer masts in between 85 and 100cm!
