What to do with e-foil batteries? USA

Postby grigorib » Tue Mar 23, 2021 3:24 pm

Almost new Lithos Lift 48V/2.1kWh batteries with failed thermistor in them. Sat in storage charged but won’t operate. Lithos wouldn’t service them and as of Lift perspective - they’re already out of warranty
Full of pretty new cells which are certainly of value.

Any ideas who might be able to rebuild them and make good set out of those?
I imagine ebike or OneWheel or efoil builders would have great use for that...

A mate bought a 2nd hand Lift - the battery failed & was out of warranty - Lift took it in, examined it, confirmed it was faulty & gave him a NEW battery !

I would go back to Lift, as they seem very fair/exemplary customer service (should be at that price :D )

These are the same as eBike batteries a lot places that build and fix ebike batteries would be able to fix it if you can't get it replace on warranty. I built a few ebikes so I know a few things about those. The cells are probably fine it must be the BMS board that has a burned component.

To follow up, my mate bought his efoiler as an ex-demo board - the battery died at 14 months & they shipped him a replacement after he uploaded the battery data via the app - he still has the old battery & the cells appear to be OK.

Good morning Grigory,

1st...sorry that this happened. It can't feel good having a battery or 2 go bad. Was it both of them?

2nd....even though you didn't get it from me, what can I do to help?
I know some of the back story and I have a great relationship with Lift and willing to help if I can.

3rd...always willing to help out a friend my friend.

Thanks.

Hi Bob,
The backstory is simple - got demo efoil with couple of batteries. Lift has been nice and replaced one free of charge.
Initially Lithos wanted to get them in and look inside but then they replied they know the issue and advised to just dispose. From a buddy who built ebikes I know there are people for whom 20 lbs of cells is a minor treasure but I don’t know anyone in proximity.

So for one battery - it’s for grabs for anyone who wants to rebuild it.
As of the second one - I can get the diagnostics and if it’s possible to replace it - that would be a good additional 1.5-2 hours of rides more on a given day out.

I'd like it, and would use it for a tow boogie I'm building. But I'm in New Zealand. Happy to pay postage

@Grigory....that's awesome.

It sounded like you were having trouble getting the battery issue resolved.
Glad Lift was able to take care of you guys. They rock.

Just placed a large order with them and can't wait.

Let's chat soon.
