sabfoil 633 VS 679

Postby nayy » Fri Apr 23, 2021 12:26 pm

Hi all,

a friend is hesitating between those 2 front wings for his new foil setup...

I there someone who tested both and can share his thoughts ?

He's only 64 kg :-).

I'm very happy with my 633 (with a shim on the backfoil) ...

Tell him to get the 679. I ride the 633 as my daily and I'm 110 kg. I also don't have issues with the front foot pressure. My wife is considerably lighter and has the 679. I've ridden both and really really like the 679. Same general behavior as the 633 but with less drag, a little higher top end, and less lift. Doesn't feel like the kite wings, it's still a surf wing.

I am 64kg and use both

Now I am not using 633 anymore just 679 for a surfy ride with small tube kite and strapless pocket board. As said the 633 has too much drag and too slow. Also too much lift requiring too much front foot pressure even with mast further back on the board for my weight.

When I want to go faster I ride a smaller wing with a foil kite.

There has been tons of feedback on both. For 64 kilos he should get the 679. 633 will feel too slow, too lifty

I have both wings, weigh 95 kilo, love them both, but they do offer fun in different conditions, the 633 is not slow, use straps lock in,tune the mast and wings to keep them smooth and silent at top speed and prevent the wobbles, the 633 gets to 27knts, and that is flipping fast, at the limit, but so much fun, but if you want less drama and want a smoother ride and a whole 1-2 knts more speed, but higher average speed then the 639 delivers, keep it moving fast to keep it super smooth, fly upwind better, faster and higher, higher- as its easier to keep it on line maxed out, and even though its slightly wider i can get my small pocket boards edge skimming across the water at a silly angle to fly upwind, jumping is great but so is the 633, but the 639 is not quite as easy to have a blast on, it keeps you engaged, you need to keep it going quickly if you are not light, or risk dropping down without warning around the corners or in waves, in waves then my 633 is king, super curvy fast agressive slashy turns, where the 639 likes slightly wider turns, but keep it moving and it will turn fast, they are both great wings, the 639 needs perfect trim and rides better with the thin moses shim, moses now give you 3 shims to choose from and the thin .5 deg one works a treat, with the mast set more forward by only 10mm more than the 633, both foot straps work so well with both wings, but you do need to muscle the 639 hard around tight corners to get near the 633 turning radius which does the same but so much easier.
Years ago I did not like my old 639,it was called another name back then, I was not good enough to understand how to get the best from it, I was only using one strap and found it hard to keep the speed up to prevent instability and sudden drop downs in wavy conditions, and was certainly not even thinking about boosting, so sold it as my 633 was so much easier to have fun on, still is! but now a few years later I can use the 639 and really get the best from it.

As of speed I meant normal cruising speed and top speed. At 25 mph both 633-679 start feeling unstable and I’d say it feels pretty fast but not 800 wing fast which does 30 easily without a hint of any instability.
Personally I’m done with heavy surf fuselage setups and I use kite fuselage to mount all my wings which range from 570 to 1200 sq.cm so for 65 kilo person I’d recommend kite fuselage-based setup. Leave the surf fuselage to winging/SUP folks

I think it depends on your friend’s skill level.

633 is fantastic for progressing and getting confidence with swapping feet and tacks jibes etc, even at a lower body weight. Super stable and forgiving. Not a slow foil, but needs more power than the 679 to go faster.

If you want that higher cruising speed and more liveliness, the 679 is really nice. That was my experience anyway. I’m 75kg. I don’t use the 633 anymore but glad I had it and really enjoyed it over that period of time.
