Foil wing deteriorated

Postby JoseTumaco » Sun Apr 25, 2021 1:41 pm

Please need some advice what to do with this deteriorated wing (Moses 550), kind of little holes in some parts, product of massive use of course,... Should I sand it? Or Apply epoxi? Or,...

Thanks for your help

I would fill all of the holes with epoxy then sand, if you have a good collection of wet and dry paper with the finest being at least 1500 grade should be able to get a nice smooth finish.

It’s just sandpaper but wet and dry works better for me and comes in much finer grades. You can buy a selection of wet and dry paper very cheaply from eBay or Amazon. Grades go from about 80 to 5000. Once filled start with maybe 200 or 400 grade and then finish with finer grades, 1500 grade will leave a really smooth finish. Wet sanding generally works better for fine finishing.

Does that do anything other than save time? I can’t imagine it would be as durable as epoxy.

i've never used epoxy to repair carbon...
...only baking soda(sodium bicarb)/superglue (cyanoacrylate)

learned it from a guy that does auto repair on (expensive) carbon spoilers
never had a problem.. and i've surfed(and hit) more than my share of reefs over the years.

it does come off with acetone, thou..
(dont go riding in a sea of nail polish remover)

JB Weld Epoxy is widely available at least in North America for about $10. It is dark grey. Dries overnight. Works great and easy to sand.
