Hi
I am using a 65L wingboard to kitefoil, I am just a beginner.
After try and error, I found eassiest common waterstart. Only start on my knees in very light wind... 4-6 knots. Standing up when the board gets some speed and the kite is high.
For me the main advantage is not to need to waterstart everytime the board losses speed, I Just make a loop and fly again.
Other aspect is security, I use a Peak4 11 for those winds, I can not relaunch under 6knot. So no drama if I have to swim.... Pack the kite and knee-paddeling reach the shore 5 times faster than with a 20L board
Is no realistic for me to Foil with 4-6 knot....I can do some runs, but hardly can mantain upwind angle specially toeside... But is fun to fly smoothly!
For more wind use peak 5m, advantages are the same
Hope it helps

Here's what I recommend when it goes below 10 mph:

I get it man… But where I live when it gets below 10 for a little while has clear water and I love seeing the sea life down there. I truly am happy going about 5knots with that slow big wing on mine. Kinda of like my idea of a Sunday drive for some people… No hurry to get anywhere: just enjoy the time along the way.

Still use my 100L 5'10 with a kite. That board with a GL240 and a 6m Peak4 make the impossible possible but it doesn't always make it fun.

I am a lot closer after this weekend. I borrowed a friends old epoxy kite surf board that was 6'6" with a stick on foil mount and rode easily in 8knots. Not only that, but I was totally depowered and found it easy to get up and out of the water. Excited to use again on a lower wind day.

Did you have any trouble keeping the kite in the air during jibes?

You left out your weight, sounds like it's near or below the 65L mark if you are easily knee paddling it.

I will let you know as I was super careful that day, and honestly I was still a bit wobbly after I sent the kite and it took me 20 sec or so to get everything right, so I was not ready to take that risk. Once I got several runs in and found that I could get up and go and keep going I called it a day. I just picked up a 7'0 version of the 6' 6" I rode Saturday and the foil mount will be here Wednesday. Once I dial in riding the foil, I will try a jib, and will probably try it on a smaller kite at first.

Take your 18m out in 6 knots with a SUP and see how well you do even with a big stable platform, it's not easy climbing on a board while flying a kite.
The challenge with big boards is that it floats too well....as you are scrambling onto it, you can drift fast under the kite, then it hindenburgs. So you have to be actively flying the kite. You can instead do a windsurf style water start, but as you can't turn the board on its side you need good timing to be able to jump up on to board in ready position. Finally, the worst option: stand in knee deep water, jump on and go ... if you don't make the outside turn, or fall off, you will be swimming because you haven't figured out a deep water start.
[this is with a sup btw, would be same with a sup foil I think]
No, not even close, the foil makes all the difference as it acts as resistance so you don't drift sideways.

Yes, you are right, I weight 62Kg.
Anyway big volume board makes lightwind easy, unless it has less volume than your weight

I have found no problem to turn the board by hand and maintain this position with the feet on the strap, common waterstart very easy with 65L board
Only front footstrap
