Has Anyone Tried A Big Board For Kite Foiling In Super Low Wind

I'm 100KG using /SSInfinity99/AlienAirBoard/Pulsion18MUlFabric. Had success on calm seas to about 8. If I utilized something like a smaller wing board that was maybe 80L, could I start out kneeling on it and maybe get to 6-7? I am sure others have considered the same scenario. (At least the big guys like me)

Unless you have gymnast level balance this probably isn't going to work out. You would need about 110L board to have much chance and even then it will be very challenging.

The difference is wingfoilers actually put their wing on the water and use it to stabilize themselves as they get in position on their knees. You on the other hand will be trying to climb on to that sinker board while keeping an 18m kite flying in 6 knots of wind. You will dump the kite and session will be over.

You will have a much better chance at success if you were to use a Peak 4 instead, but I still think you'll need the 110L board.

Take your 18m out in 6 knots with a SUP and see how well you do even with a big stable platform, it's not easy climbing on a board while flying a kite.

The challenge with big boards is that it floats too well....as you are scrambling onto it, you can drift fast under the kite, then it hindenburgs. So you have to be actively flying the kite. You can instead do a windsurf style water start, but as you can't turn the board on its side you need good timing to be able to jump up on to board in ready position. Finally, the worst option: stand in knee deep water, jump on and go ... if you don't make the outside turn, or fall off, you will be swimming because you haven't figured out a deep water start.

I went a slightly different direction. I bought a 52 litre 5'10" board. The idea being that if I dive the kite to get up on the board but do not get up on the foil I have time for a second dive before the board sinks. I am 80 kg. and it works well for me and I do not have to climb up on a small tippy board while flying a kite. Maybe look at some prone foil boards.

I went a slightly different direction. I bought a 52 litre 5'10" board.

Yeah, I went a completely different direction and use a small board and big foil (1600 cm). Once I'm out in to deep water I can loop the kite to push the board down underwater while under my feet. Then it takes 2-4 more loops to get the foil to lift me up out of the water. It's far from easy, but not crazy hard either. I can get started in 8 knots of wind with my Peak 4 5m kite and 26L board.
