What is the most fun kite you find in 7-10 knots with a surf wing on flat water and waves ?
Hi!
In 7-10 Kts I use a 18m Sonic3. But with a freeride or race foil. There are no waves at our spot without wind.
10-13 kts I enjoy my 7m UFO and 633.
Above 13 kts I go wingfoiling!!!

Not sure what the original posters weight is but with my 65 kg I'm good on a 5m Peak4 in 7-10 knots in flat water and waves with a good 1000 sq cm surf foil. If you're heavier try the 6m or 8m Peak4. Over 100kg and you may want the 11m or 13m Peak4. All the Peak4 has to do is get you out of the water onto the board, if it can do that you'll be good
Going for the smallest Peak4 that can get you out of the water means you have a kite that maintains good speed flying and turning compared to much heavier twin skin and LEI kites. Remember even the 6m Peak4 weighs less than 1kg which translates to much more responsiveness in light winds. Even if the wind drops to 3 knots the kite will still comfortably fly.
When you're riding waves in light wind don't just go directly downwind with the wave as you'll outrun the kite. Ride the wave left or right depending on the wind angle and you'll benefit from some apparent wind as well as the push from the wave. The Peak4 also responds well to pumping the foil to get you through the lulls and increase your upwind performance.

im 70-75 kg , and I have a peak 5m on the way actually .
I bought it for the range of 13+ to accomplish with my 9m ufo.
Are you sure it can go in those winds ?
People are reporting they only work from 12 knots on this size.

It wont take long to get used to the 5m and then only a little longer to really figure out what it's low end is for you. We are about the same weight and I like the 6m down to 10 knots, and now that I have it, don't bother with the 5m until over 12. I'm not in the business of pushing the low end. 10 knots is a sure thing for me but I wont hop in the water with it in less. It compares power wise to the average 9m just flies a lot better in low wind.
Probably a lot like your UFO. You already have both so will have some fun figuring out which one you like best. Stoked for you.
As to 7-10, why bother, er, I mean, you might have to look at the 11-13m range of twin skin or strutless for that.

I'm 75 kg and can water start the 5m in about 8 knots but it doesn't become fun until around 10 knots. 12-14 knots it's perfect but starts to flutter a lot above 15 knots. I do ride a 1600 sqcm front wing though. The technique for water starting in 8 knots is a bit challenging and requires head deep water.
I have a 6m Peak 4 now as well but haven't had a chance to get out on it yet.

It really depends on what you want to do in light wind. If your coastal and have waves to play with the lightest kite possible, eg a Peak is the go.
But if you have no waves to play with you probably going to want to practice transitions so a kite with plenty of lift plus light weight is the go, eg a soul or hyperlink.
And if you want to go fast, smashing tacks as you fly upwind, Sonic 3 is the go, that’s me.

78 kg use a 12 m2 strutless from 7 knots, turns fast so quite fun
But from 8 knots I can use an 8 m2 Peak4 and from 9 knots a 6 m2 works.
So not easy to say what will work for you in 7-10 knots.
Best would be a freeride doubleskin foilkite to cover this range, but I don't find it the most fun as really slow but needed in the low end, and you have to live with it in the high end
I know it might just be me though, as I love carving and fast turning kites, dislike too much power.

95 kg and Soul 9M works well from 7 knots, and 8-9-10 knots is absolute fun on 1200 mid aspect surf wing. Small Souls are absloute fun on big surf foils when you are lightly powered so the kite needs to be actively flown. 12 Soul or bigger ones like Soul 15 or Sonic3 15 are also tons of fun on 590 Moses but for me it it just foil jumping some old school backroll, front rolls.

Tons of days here with this wind . Not everyday it's blowing 10 knots + , and don't want to lose this days .
I have a 12 m ultra as well , which can get me going on 8-9 knots , but isn't so fun then , need to be very precise, and if it only touches water in this winds it doesn't come up .
Looking for another weapon for this winds which can enjoy them also .

Soul sounds good because it can give some joy on the twintip as well. Do you think 12m is a good size for this winds?
8m peak is also an option because it's cheap and doesn't take much place .
