a seat harness you can bend at the waist with? does it exist?

Postby papasmerf » Fri May 28, 2021 3:34 pm

kind of a tangent on the previous thread but i really like my seat harness's. i recently switched to the vega,, but the only problem with them is that (for me, anyway) it is hard to bend at the waist,, like for strapless water starting and trying to sit down on the board.

has anyone who kitefoils a lot with a seat harness,,, found the easiest to bend brand?

conversely,, has anyone found a waist harness that is actually comfortable and doesn't ride up and become a sternum harness?

I have been using the Dakine Nitrous short harness for the last 15 years. I had a used a Dakine seat harness before that, and it felt bulky and restrictive in comparison. I couldn't stand waist harness because they just ride up and are very uncomfortable for me.
The Nitrous just feels like your wearing a pair of shorts, they are very minimalist, and allow for full freedom of movement. Easy to bend, squat, and just move in general. I've only hydrofoiled the last 5 years, and they are perfect for me.
I know people also like the Ion shorts harness, as they seem to have been modeled from the Nirtous shorts.

Petzl sequoia (normal not srt) is bend and cush. Only downside are all the extra climbing loops on it.

Mystic foil seat also sits super low, easy to bend hips.

Agreed. Very popular around here. Many of us use it with a rope slider spreader bar... a perfect setup for foiling.
Sells for $130 US without spreader bar.

+1 on the Ion B2 board shorts harness. I found it to be more comfortable than the Dakine. I'll never go back to a waist harness. I foil or surf mostly with the new webbing slider from Ion.

what specifically made the ion more comfortable? what is your overall body shape?

It's been a couple of years so I can't remember specifically. I remember trying both of them on and it was immediately apparent. I think it may have been the way the seat straps pulled on my body. I don't really feel the ones on the Ion. I am slim (skinny). 5'10" (178 cm), 148 lb (67 kg), no butt.
