Just realized my end of session routine might be helping keep any corrosion at bay,
I always take 20ltrs of fresh water in in 5ltr plastic tubs with me, for washing down all my kit, and me as well, and dry all my foil parts before placing in covers, so never leave any salty or wet water on any gear before driving home.
just my routine.

Hi Foil,

Your washing routine is probably a great way to go for long term protection. I simply wash in fresh water when I get home, never put anything away wet as it’s a sure recipe for disaster.
The corrosion on my foil happend while in use. I can’t see any amount of washing helping that. What has really p me off is the dismissal by sab, even if I had never washed it and left it soaking in salt water it should not have had any real effect in the 2 weeks since purchase.

Have you tried not putting the foil underwater? Since water is what is corroding it, you should probably not get the thing wet in the first place.

You're complaining about a lack of support, but clearly Moses did not intend it to be used in this way. Did you try holding out your staff and parting the sea before you go out? This is what Moses does, and it keeps his stuff from getting wet and corroding.

I would never waste time cleaning in fresh water - life's too good and short for that :thumb:
You can surf a bit longer, instead of using time on that...

But isnt the "corrosion" you show, simply something "sweating" out from the foil, and not corrosion?

It seems like that at least, so no big deal, just scrape it off :naughty:

PS: I know its not the same, but remember back in the start of the windsurfing days, when we rinsed the sails with fresh water?
What a totally stupid idea - using time on something that would just make it worse

Yes it is something sweating out, aluminium! Jokes aside I’m not aware of anything that can come out of aluminium that isn’t supposed to be there in the first place. Most anodising has some chemicals in it that can be released, in this case it would be black dye. Anodising it’s self is more or less inert and is in fact just controlled corrosion! But the white powdery substance that came out was absolutely unwelcome corrosion.

Something I have been pondering today so thought I would put it out. I have been wondering if there is any interest in a full stainless steel fuselage? Would be a direct replacement, probably a bit thinner/low profile to reduce the weight but still heavier than the aloy one. Cost would be higher but I haven’t got any quotes yet. Bit over kill but would be a investment vs what looks to be a consumable item originally supplied.

Levitaz from Austria are making stainless steel fuselages ever since. Seems they´re now offering some of their fuselages in titanium versions as well.
Looks sleek, but is very heavy.

Titanium would be, btw, the ideal material for this purpose from my point of view.
Very corrosion resistant due to its dense oxide layer and reasonable light (a bit heavier than Al, much lighter than steel).

Don´t worry. As stated in my comment above, it will disappear completely after a short time of use.
I was upset as well when I experienced this, but it seems to be uncritical.
Try to rub the whole fuselage with grease, then remove grease with a cloth. It works quite well.
Background: The anodized layer of Aluminium oxide is very thin and by nature it has a lot of very, very small holes in it (these holes are unavoidable no matter how thick the anodized layer has been grown). Those holes could be the root cause for this corrosion we all experience.
Any grease attached to the surface of anodized Al will be sucked into those holes by surface tension. Once grease is in the holes, no water will ever be able to enter the holes again.

Oh, the Moses (now SAB) foil has an alloy fuselage?

Sorry, my mistake, I thought it was a carbon foil - but only partly it seems.

a word of warning if going down the grease path, as Onda has mentioned above, ensure you don't get any oily product anywhere near the working surfaces of the mast strut or wings,top/bottom or edges, that would be disastrous, same with your hands after applying suncream, keep them off all the working surfaces, hard to do, so best apply it at home and wash off before leaving for a session, or wear gloves.
try it for fun, it certainly slows you down, crashing out all the time.
