Sabfoil / Moses Bigger wing than 950 and smaller than 1100 for winging

Postby addictedtofoil » Tue Jun 22, 2021 9:23 am

I'm a heavier guy (6'2, 100kg not that fat, just a big guy) and ride a 111L 5'4 board and I reckon Sabfoil needs a bigger wing than 950 and smaller than 1100 for winging, 1100 is just so big for light to medium conditions in my opinion.

I bought the 950 thinking it was 1650cm (typo on their website)

Something in the 1750 range, high aspect, 900ish wide.

It seems the market is aimed at 70-80kg guys..

Please Sabfoil don't forget bigger riders who want performance but not huge wide wings.

Yup that gap is left completely open by Moses. You can try 790 but it’s not the wing you want to be looking for.

250 HA Lift wing might do well instead with an adapter to Moses masts but those are easy to get.

Yes, the 790 is not for winging, too slow.

250 HA Lift wing = no interest as a 1 piece and can't travel with it.

Did you try the 950? Interested to know the low end compared to 1100 (and 790) for a heavier ride (I am boxing in the same catgory)

Wheight is very important for winging IMO

Context: I wing around Sydney airport (harbour, within 5kms) and use the airport's wind sensor to give low/high range. However, what the airport sensors read is completely different to wind on the surface for winging. For kiting it's very accurate, albeit the kite is on 24m lines.

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN60701 ... 4767.shtml

I've tried the 950/483 twice now, both times on sketchy gusty days 19-30knots using a 6m ensis, messy harbour chop up to 1m high, sometimes I struggled to get up on foil, but once up it was great (apart from the ensis backwinding).

Definitely need one in-between 950-1100 as I wouldn't have struggled so much in the lulls to get on foil.

I tried the 790 once, big fat slow wing for winging IMO, better suited to surfing but never tried in the surf, however the 940/945 will be better than the 790 IMO.

I kite with the 800/400 combo and ozone foil kites freestyle, which is amazing, can drift kite and carve harbour chop no issues, with a tiny bit of assistance from the kite

Slingshot should have not mess around with making Phantasm but just kept making better wings which fit Moses

The problem with us heavy guys is to get up on the foil
Once up we can all ride and enjoy the benefits of a small wing
Same applies for the HA wings.
If you add the weight of your age... I guess I could have been pumping much better 20 years ago.

I still don’t get why Moses releases bunch of overlapping wings instead of spacing them 30% apart nicely, while leaving significant gaps.
I think I should start looking for a consulting product manager position and put a price tag on completely free common sense :)

I'm 80kg and been riding the 950 for few sessions now with Peak4 5m2, and the 950 is very nice; it carves very well for its span and it pumps really well, but for pumping you need to have speed. If not it stalls quite abruptly compare to 1100 (obviously), but also compared to 633 (my previous kite foil wing). However, the 633 does not pump at all if compared to 950, and I like to be as free from the kite as one can in certain situations plus it's good pumping practice for winging. Interested to see what's the 950 is like for winging.

I fell your pain mate!

me at 90kg I just got a new 6m f-one cwc and although the lowing improvement over my 5m wasp is quite noticeable I still spend time slogging while all my mates are flying with bigger wings. But once I'm flying I smoke them all using my superior speed.

At the end it's up to you, want better speed and carving once flying? or better lowend with a slower feeling?
