Sabfoil/Moses - 799 vs 633 for kiting

Postby addictedtofoil » Sun Jul 04, 2021 3:52 am

Any feed back on the 799 wing for kiting? How does it compare to the 633?

I guess it should be faster as higher AR, but less maneuverable as wider.

Interested to hear feedback from experienced riders who have tried both.

Thanks

799 is a lot more pitch unstable as it uses the s399 stab. I would say at least as maneuvrable, wing is closer to the mast with new HS fuselage and is thinner so easier to turn around. Low speed lift is quite similar as it is higher aspect

Overall a great wing!

I use the 400 with the 633, makes it more fun than the 483, but 483 better in light winds.

How does the 633 feel on the HS700, it would certainly liven it up more being closer to the mast verves the old 710?

Havent tried the 633 on new fuse. Should liven it up and reduce front foot pressure.

W799 can go faster than 633, and more lift at low speed. (Can dockpump)

First session on 799/400 combo with Chrono V3 11m in 9-13knots, abrupt lift but once you get use to it, it's a great foil, fun and agile with a very low stall speed, makes the 633 short of redundant I guess.

Interesting topic. Anyone compared the 799 to the 679 for kiting?

I think 633 and then 683s/679 allowed riders to go slow in a very forgiving way at the time when most of wings were tiny and thin.
The price we paid using “surf” wings was additional, heavy fuselage we had to use which had wing positioned too far forward and as you can see once aspect ratio changed, Moses started adding tails to the wings (instead of mounting them to kite fuselage just like they did with 718 version of 720 wing). I see it as waste and design flaw personally.
One solution which I completely in support for is mounting such wings onto lighter, more compact kite fuselage as I did with my freerace (wingfoil race) 800, freeride 730 wing, race 600 and lightwind 1200 wing.
My main point is - you don’t need 1100 sq.cm wing for most of kiting sessions except lightwind and 1100 and smaller are perfectly mountable onto kite fuselage, kiting with surf fuselage is a ridiculous idea.

I agree with you grigorib on some of your points and your original post(s) about your family having the 800/695 prompted me to make the purchase of these wings, for that I thank you. I had my second session on the 799/400 in 11-18 knots, the lowend of the 799 is probably better than the 633, but not the high end, the 799 doesn't like speed going 20+knots and chop, you can do it but it doesn't feel comfortable at all, and yes it should have been made available for the kite fuselage, but that wasn't the target market, winging was for the HS700, they tried the 720 Baz but that had a shelf life of a couple of months and pulled from the market...

I disagree with you saying that you don't need a 1100 sq.cm wing, it is a great wing for beginners and experienced kiters, tremendous fun carving hard and for jumping, but I am a kite foil freestyler, I like to carve/surf chop, hard carving turns, jump high and sometimes go fast in a straight line but this gets boring after a few minutes. I can do the same with the 800 but hard carving turns leaning right back if you make a mistake and breach, the foil will suddenly jump out of the water and you can slice your leading lines on the back of the foil (already done it) as the lines are low close to the water looping through the power zone, so the 799 can do the same but without slicing lines or yourself :)

Masts I use are 82/91/101 and my main foils are:
kiting: 695 (jumping machine, but medium stall speed), 800 (can easily be your only kite foil), 799 (bought for winging)/633 (my first foil)
winging: 799/950/1100

I'd actually like a foil in the 750ish range like the 800, or even better redesign the 695 to have a better lowend like the 799, but similar characteristics to the 800. The 800 is too wide IMO for kite foiling, it's doable but less is more with foiling

I am 95-100kgs
