I ordered Zeeko Bullet with Carver 950 without to have any experience with hydrofoiling

Postby lazy turtle » Sun Jul 11, 2021 2:14 pm

Hello people.
I ordered Zeeko Scrambler 4.3 board with Bullet foil and Carver 950 front wing.
I have experience with strapless surfboard, but never tried hydrofoiling.
For kitesurfing I use 8 and 12 m kites.
I'm heavier rider - 95 kg.
What do you think for this equipment, is it will be good for me? My general idea is to foiling in light wind, something about 10-12 knots. Of course, when I learn to do it.
Thanks in advance.

A bigger wing, 1100-1200 would be a little easier but zeeko 950 should be ok.
I managed learning with zeeko carver (800cm2), weight ~83.
You will find wind >12 better for learning.
Try 15 knots, 12m kite.

Have a great trip, don’t fall into the trap of trying to learn foiling just in the light stuff. Learning to foil in stronger winds is easier, the kite is higher and lifting you rather than you having to dive the kite dead and the kite pulling you sideways.

The carver wing is a good size for learning, not to thick or too big. Big wings can work against you when learning, too much lift and they come up fast when your not ready for it.

Foil mast all the way to the back of the board, even shimming the stab so the foil doesn’t want to fly. Those first days you just want to get the feel of the board, skipping from chop to chop without really flying. The foil is a big fin you need to get used to controlling, plenty of time for flying later.

I'd go for a bigger wing, I think it'll help you progress faster. I think I lost of time as I learned trying to figure it out on smaller less stable wings.

I'm 95KG, and my progress went way faster (like it took me about 3 sessions) when I switched to a bigger Slingshot Infinity 76 surf wing that was 1534 sq cm.

For context, I twin tipped and surfed for about 6 years before trying to foil. It took me about 30-35 hours to get to the point where I'm carving and confidently riding without falling in light winds 8-10knots (my sessions were spaced out over 2 years). You can see more details about my journey in this thread
