Please help to unscrew foil mast

Postby JoseTumaco » Mon Jul 26, 2021 11:22 pm

Please need some advice, how can I screw this screw? I tried with my normal torx key and it got loose because of trying in several opportunities. What do you suggest?

And what could I do so that this does'nt happen to me again?

Thanks for your help,

José

extractor. you can find it in the hardware store. has thread on the contrary of the pin. to avoid this problem, change the Allen screw and change the screws often.

Or you can go old school and grind a slot with a Dremel disk blade.

Usually, you will strip a screw when you use the wrong size tool or do not seat it properly.

Looks like the head is not burried in the base you may be able to grab the head on the side with pliers and turn. If that doesn't work the 2 solutions above are good. I would try the extractor first. If not last resort would be drilling the head but you would have to take a lot of time since it will get hot and you don't want to burn the carbon.

When you do get it out and replace it with a new screw, put some Tef-Gel or some other anti-seize compound on the threads so it does not seize up again.

Is it just me, or does it look like a tamper proof fastener? LOL - don't use those!

You can also get a torx but that is one size too big and just hammer it until it smashes itself in place. Thats what I try first. Second I try those screw extractor bits. If those two don't work drill it out and then make new threads with a tap. The hammering in a bit one size too large works more than any other method I usually use. I have a 20 year old car that I work on myself where I end up using this method a lot.

Heat (propane torch) combined with an ez-out style extractor tool. You may need to drill the head prior to using the extractor.

Just take a torch to the old epoxy carbon composite.
Not.
Besides ez out another thing you can do is just put a drop of epoxy in the socket and stick a normal hex wrench that would fit if the docket was mot stripped in it. Let harden over night and you may find it unscrews fine. If not, on to the hardware store got extractors….
Save the propane for the stove.
