I thought we all were in agreement that surface area is a crucial parameter when you take into consideration weight force (riders weight) and the lift equation on the same foil?

The same foil is not the same for all riders and the foil should be scaled to cater for the different weight ranges of people.

Unfortunately I don't understand French, is there an English transcript? I assume he is explaining in layman's terms all the parameters involved in the mathematical equations that determines lift, which were mentioned a few pages back.

Looking forward to a bigger 945 for heavier riders hopefully in 2021 from Sabfoil!

I found the cc button on youtube. I notice in their video they have new wings that are bigger in size 1650cm2 over the current 1500cm2 design, and he is my weight 95-100kgs.

I wonder why they went bigger and not smaller in surface area? Must be something in that for winging in light wind for heavier riders. It would close the gap quiet nicely in the Sabfoil foil range for winging in 2021

Some people like to fly faster on thinner wings, some need slower wings to not outrun waves - for each there’s a need of size line - for various rider weights. There’s a separate lines of different purpose kite models, same should be for wings.

Basically he says how a foil works but for what we discuss here he says:

- he is >100kg
- surface is only one of the parameter
- thicker profiles induce more lift, profile also has an influence but he won't go into this details
- the more HA the more lift, he compares a smaller HA to a bigger LA and says he gets going quicker on the HA (both quite thick profiles) - about 4 knots of speed for him
- the bigger the surface, the more drag you have

So for me same lift is possible between smaller HA and bigger LA (assuming same thickness and profile) but you get more speed (less drag)
The data we getfrom SAB is only surface and thickness, nothing about profile. So it says nothing IMO.

I will get a 945 and let you know my thoughs I have 1100 ang wright 110kg ;-)

A comparison for me is I've have/had the Moses 873 and 1100 both similar area but the 873 for my 76kg The 873 was a disaster in comparison to the 1100.
Now I have an Axis 1050 black series at 1500 sq cm that has replaced my 950 and 1100 mostly for Windwing.

Yes that's why I use my kite foils as a good reference, and probably why I won't get a 740 (702cm2) as it requires a higher cruising speed and will stall quicker than the 800 (840cm2) and my 695 (770cm2) at my weight.

Thanks, I look forward to your feedback on the 945.

W999 is 1740cm2 😁 so there you go.

But not many ride big wings anyway...
