F-One Phantom 1280 or 1080 to kitesurf?

Postby rolfjoosten » Sat Aug 21, 2021 6:35 pm

Hi guys
Did anyone already try the F-One Phantom 1080 or 1280 for kitefoiling? :?:
How is it compared to Moses / SAB Onda?

I use the Phantom 1780, 1480, 1280 and 1080 for wingfoiling where they are really amazing. I once tried the 1480 on kitefoil and didn't like it at all, it felt way too big and clumsy...I wonder about different opinions...

Thanks :thumb:

I use Escape 530 and Mirage 1000 for kitesurfing and Phantom 940 and 1280 for wingfoiling. I found the Mirage 1000 to be also excellent for Wingfoiling in stronger winds. The Phantom 940 which is the smaller brother to the 1080 has more lift than the Mirage 1000 and when kiting felt too powerful and a bit slower edge to edge. Hope this helps.

I ride the 633 with (old) 425 stab and tried the Ph1280 for kiting and winging. I was hoping to only use 1 foil with 2 front wing for both kiting and winging.
Didn't like it for kiting: balance is very different and I ride a 94cm Kanaha no rails, just inserts. Too much backfoot for this setup.
It is was slower then my 633. Seems strange but it was a fact for me. I ride the S425 not 483 this makes a huge difference.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your responses, Frankieboy and windmaker.
I was able to test the 1080 with my Groove Wave 123 x 49cm.
Honestly I was super happy with the setup. I am riding this setup strapless with a 5m Peak in around 16kts. We had a small swell of around 1 to 1.5m at times.
The Phantom is way more stable in pitch than the Onda and it generally feels much easier to ride. At first I was missing how nimble and quick to turn the Onda is but after I was dialed in a bit the 1080 felt just awesome. The glide you get from the higher aspect is unreal which made it a winner for me. I was suddenly able to connect small waves without problems which never worked with the Onda. After getting used to the higher wingspan, I was able to bank it as much and throw some really tight turns with the 1080.
All over I am super stoked with this setup.
I am used to the Onda 633, the 683 which had a different name recently and also know the S450 and S483 as stabilizers.

Hope someone can use this info...
