I suggest to start demoing stabilizers from folks/shops around.
The 450 is more stable yet you’ll need to adjust mast position or stance and/or shim the stabilizer up.
Many people like to ride 679 with race stabilizers like 425-420-421
483 is good as is except it wants a tad more of yaw stability and wingtips get damaged relatively quick compared to stabilizers with wingtips pointed up.
I personally would use RDB 310 sq.cm - it’s as large as 483/450 but thinner, less draggy and doesn’t have “483/450 issues”
I took your advice and ordered the 310cm2 freeride stabilizer from RDB and mounted it without any shim to the 710 fuselage.
I have now tried the 370->400->RDB310.
Had the first session with the RDB310 yesterday in very challenging condition varying from 10-20 knots on a 7m UFO.
For me, this stabilizer is so much better than the 370 and 400.
I mostly ride in the open sea, doing long upwind legs followed by S-carving downwind, some big swell surfing, but no white water shore break.
Pros:
- Much better pitch and yaw stability
- Better low end
- Tacking and jibing is so much easier. While tacking with the smaller stabilizers I often stall the main wing due to too high AOA. The big stabilizer will help you too keep a low AOA.
- Great stability at high speed, tried to speed up a few a times and got 43,5km/h which is same or better than what I managed with the 400 because the 400 was so nervous.
Cons:
- Maybe a tad more drag
- Bigger turning radius
Thank you for your advice grigorib
