Moses 679 - which stabilizer?

Postby luke-warmwater » Fri Sep 24, 2021 8:46 am

Looking for some advice please....
I've just moved from a 633 to a 679 and currently using the 483 rear wing and I'm wondering if there is a better stabilizer for the 679?

Can anyone advise which stab works best with the 679 front wing? Using it just for kite foiling...Thanks.

Hi. I'm using the s 450 with the 679. It's very stable and pretty fast. The S450 adds more lift, so I have a 1.5mm thick shim under the stabilizer

I have the 679 with 92 mast and 370 stab. I don't like the 370 stab, it's very pitch nervous and very loose in yaw stability.
It works OK in low speed/wave riding, but in a straight line or carving at high speed it's too small for me.
I changed to the 400 stab and it's much better for allround kiting, less pitch nervous and still very maneuverable.
I'm quite happy now but would probably prefer a slightly bigger stabilizer with area of approx. 250cm2 to increase pitch stability at high speed.
The new 425 or 470 might be nice, but I don't like that the 425 is totally flat, the yaw stability is probably very low.
Would be nice with some feedback from someone who have used the 425 or 470 together with the 679.

I settled on the old 420 race stab after 6mths on the 483 . . . a friend really likes the 330.

I suggest to start demoing stabilizers from folks/shops around.
The 450 is more stable yet you’ll need to adjust mast position or stance and/or shim the stabilizer up.
Many people like to ride 679 with race stabilizers like 425-420-421
483 is good as is except it wants a tad more of yaw stability and wingtips get damaged relatively quick compared to stabilizers with wingtips pointed up.
I personally would use RDB 310 sq.cm - it’s as large as 483/450 but thinner, less draggy and doesn’t have “483/450 issues”

Just remember, there is no such thing as "the best" stabilizer, as it is just as individual as our liking of colours and other things...

So to hear what others like is great, but dont forget to deliver your own input regarding personal likings

I am one who loves supersmall stabs, so the foil gets lively and fun - others like a more tracking stabilizer, and some like a bit of front foot pressure, others a more neutral stab.

So as grigorib says, TRY and find out what you prefer - it is the only way :naughty:

just to elaborate a little.

my journey went from 483 (seemed to load up front foot as you went faster though I was relatively new to the foil) then went 325 (gave amazing maneuverabilty) then to a 330 style which I settled on for a long while and then the 420 which seemed to do everything well for me.

So like others have said, try as many as you can and eventually one will feel special to you :thumb:

My journey on the 679 went: 483.... too sluggish although super stable. Then 425.... to yaw pitchy and squirrely although it was fun with aggressive turns. And finally settled on the 450 for the best of everything.

Thanks to everyone for these very helpful replies.
Sounds like I'm definitely going to have to try a few different combinations. Even so, your comments have been very useful in pointing me in the right direction so thank you again.
When I find the perfect set up for me I'll be sure to add it on here.

I love my 679. Also started with the 483 and just accepted that was how it rode but adjusted to it. I shimmed it 0.5 or 1 degree for a while which took off some front foot pressure. I rode my 330 with it a couple of times but didn’t like the pitch sensitivity, could probably get used to that too, but it was such a change. Definitely less sluggish. A few weeks ago i tried a buddy’s s400. BREAKTHROUGH session. Less sluggish but still great low end. Pitch stable. Best, I could carve hard in waves without feeling like I had to force or even slide the back end around like the 483. I ordered the 399 (same as 400) and probably won’t look back.

As someone mentioned, individual preferences vary, but definitely worth trying other options to dial in your own.
