Moses wingfoiling wings for kitefoiling

Postby flaps1111 » Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:51 am

We talk a lot about kites for low wind but little about wings, this summer I bought the w790 1550 cm2 makes everything easier in ultra light wind. Now the kitefoilers who enjoy the lighter breezes are in luck with the appearance of wingfoiling as they are developing more efficient wings for lightwind.
For winds less than 10 knots I can't think of using any other wing than the w790 but I have seen Armin Harich using a 2000 cm2 Levitaz wing in a video so it makes me think that I could still do better in Ultra light wind.
Does anyone else use the Moses/Sabfoil wings of wingfoiling for kitefoil?

I'd be interested to hear how the 799 is for kitefoil.

I have the 799 Balz Pro and I mainly use it for kitefoiling. I am an advanced kitefoiler (90kg) and ride mostly freestyle in light to medium winds (8-15kn).
I LOVE the wing. I first tried it with the 399 stabiliser, it turns on a plate without cavitation, but the small stabiliser makes it a bit nervous on the pitch axis when kitefoiling. No issue when going straight but in maneuvers, a little more lift when you lose speed is good.
To check the other extreme, I then put the BIG 450 stabiliser with a 1mm shim and to my surprise, it was much better. It did not lose much turning ability but the setup glides through tight turns like on rails, no spin outs or cavitation even with surface breaches and much more stable on the pitch axis.
I think the slightly smaller 425 stabiliser would be a perfect fit for what I want to do with it (freestyle), but I do not own it so cannot try.
Of course, the wing is not fast (compared to the 679 or the 800 f.ex.). Its not conceived for speed anyways.
So yes, its a great kitefoil wing for freestylers!

P.S: I also have the "old" 720 Balz pro and the 799 has somehow the same DNA...

Although not Moses, I’ve been using the Naish HA914 for winging and kitefoil. Its fast down the swells and you do need to watch out running the kite even when using a lightweight strutless but it easily keeps up with the fast moving windswells.
For winging its fast, great on flat water for blasting past other wingers. Long gliding gybes, where your moving faster than the breeze, had to learn to turn the wing above my head otherwise it can fall in front of you.

I’m riding RDB 1200 sq.cm wing on Moses 647 kitefoil fuselage and it’s pure lightwind pleasure. Got tired of asking Moses for larger wing for more compact and lighter fuselage and love that wing. Surf fuselages are heavy and overbuilt for kiting.

I tried kiting with my Sabfoil W950 wing with 483 stab and 647 fuselage (which I had bought for winging). It worked great in light wind and I didn't even need to adjust my mast track. This is a 1350 sq cm wing and it will certainly be my choice in the future for winds below 12 knots. It makes foiling tacks easier because it seems to glide longer.

(I normally kite with my W800 wing which is great but not well suited for very light winds.)

[correction: I use the W950 wing with the S483 stab and F710 fuselage]

Thanks for this sharing, I usually kite with 679 Moses wing in 9/13 knots, can you tell me which is the difference in feeling between it and w800 or W950?

800 is faster than 679, although the latter is already quite fast compared to 633 f.ex. 679 is way more maneuverable, whereas the 800 goes fast in a straight line like on rails. Low end is better on 679.
So in summary: 679 more for maneuvers, 800 more for speed.

The 950 fits the surf fuse . . . how did you fit it to the kite fuse?

pretty sure the w790 predates wingfoiling....maybe by 3-4 years.
many of us used it for foiling...from the time it was released.

the 790 was great for lighter winds..very stable (good for beginners) but is "limited" at speed.
that is a HUGE problem when using this for its designed use (surfing)...or for free riding.

i'll also tried moses 1100 for wave riding..on a foil.
great low end.. but unusable to me. WAY too slow... just too much inertia on a small board

in this class...(top shelf all carbon options) there are now *much* better wings that have equal the low end...more maneuverable(ie not best for beginners) ...but do not suffer from same limitations at speed. (see lifts and MFC foils and wings)

just my opinion.
