I am thinking that I want to jump on hydrofoil with kite and wonder if foot hooks are good? straps much better? I see that it is possible to jmp strapless but are thinking that to learn straps is the way? In both feet or just front? Thanks, any experience with this?
Hooks are bad idea.. they just break and you concentrate too much on keeping the foil on..
To chime in on original discussion.. Straight up jumps on foil are pretty safe for same height..
meaning that I feel much safer boosting 13m on 15m foil kite in under 18kts of wind than say going same height on 9m LEI in 28+kts with TT..
The key here, in my view, to go in mellow conditions with a big floaty kite..
If you still not sure about landings, kick off the board at take off
like here
Once you dial smooth landng - keep the board on
if something happens mid-air - with 15m you have 1-2 seconds to make a decision about kicking or keeping the board..
Normally, if I am higher than 5-6meters I kick it off, if I am lower - keep it on foot, unless only one strap is on..
