All my foiling these days is done on Peaks ... except the 3.5 Boxer, as I described above. Prior to getting the Peaks, I was using 8m, 6m & 5m 3 struts. The 8m in 10 - 14 knots, the 6m in 14 - 17 & the 5m in 17 + (more or less). These are numbers for "free-ride foiling" on a 1000cm surf foil, not racing or jumping. As my ability with the foil increased, I lost interest in using the SB in under 15 knots ... then under 20 knots ... & now it's up to 25 knots. Sounds like you may end up in the same place (like a lot of other foilers). Foiling mediocre waves is way, way more fun than surfing them with a TT or SB. The Peaks are truly on a superior level for foiling in waves or swell ... but they do have their downsides. Light LEI's still work quite nicely. I don't think a 5m would "strand you in the lulls" ... but there would be a point where the 8m is going to feel too big & the 5m too small. IMO, if you're going to add kites, I would future proof your choices & go 8m, 6m, 4m.
Mmm, might hedge my bets and go with the 6m after all. I can change wings after all, that's less hassle than pumping up another kite.

I think it depends a lot on the specific 6m kite. I'm on peaks now, but was on 8m/6m quiver of old Best Cabos for years, and that 6m would take whatever I threw at it. 30 knots with a foil was beginning to get overpowered, but fine. I then moved to 8m/6m slingshot SST, and that 6m was getting pretty uncomfortably by 20 knots, and fully overpowered by 25. So it just depends on the kite.

I don't get that: my LEI's are also Cabos. The 6m was my favourite kite size for foiling before getting Peaks. But no way I would choose to use it in 20 knots, let alone 30 knots.

Interesting to hear you say that, maybe different years (mine is 2013, I think) or maybe mine is just so bagged out that it has extended it's upper range a lot. or maybe I just know the kite really well after many years. But I flew 6m Cabo and 6m sst back to back a couple times, and the difference was huge. Similar bottom end, but huge difference in top end. SSt definitely has it's strong points, but not windrange. Either way, my original point was that the size of your smallest kite is partially determined by the kite. Brand-x 6m might be functionally smaller than brand-y 6m, of vice versa.

I used to ride the 10m Drifter and 660 up to 20 knots, cos that was all I had... Don't knot why I'm getting so precious now :lol:

My 6m Cabo is a 2015 - but I also had 9m & 7m 2013 & 2014 Cabos. It's true that the 2015 Cabos are significantly more powerful kites than the earlier ones. I can believe that the SST might have a different high end. However, in the end I suspect it might have more to do with what kind of foiling you want to do: you can foil really powered up if you choose to, but if you want to surf & carve turns in the waves/swell you really don't want to be carrying that much power.

Now I'm wishing I'd made enquires about a 5m :lol:

87 kg and 1200cm wing
When your skills improve, smaller is better if you are not on speed or jumping

Yep. I'm perfectly set up with an 8m Roam and 5m Roam as my tiny kite and there's nothing missing out. My logic is that when I get blown off the water foiling & 5m, I just keep my directional 5'8" Celero parked and ready.
I also have the 10m Roam for the lighter winds.

I go 8, 6, 4.

Buy the sound of it you will need to stick to 3 strut kites due to superior mass.

At 80 kg with gear on. Here's my wind ranges on the foil
8m - 10-20 knots - nice Wave riding max - 16
6m - 18-25 knots - nice Wave riding max - 22
4m - 20- stupid - nice Wave riding max - 30
Just to add on this:
for 105 Kg
10m Pivot -10->20kts
7m Pivot -18->24kts
and yet to try a 5m RRD Passion in 20+ knots (which i gues it will work)
