It is possible but depends on riders weight, skills and of course the conditions you want to ride in.
I am lightweight and after a few months winging only use a 4’11 25L prone board and a 34L kite race board both for winging and kiting. A friend just bought an Fone rocket surf 4’6 36L that I could use for all 3 disciplines and would not suck for any of them. For winging I find the start way easier sinking than muscle the bigger boards out of the water.
How much wind and wing are you going on with the sink start?
14-18 knots I ride 34L and 4.5 slick
18-20 I ride 34L and 3.5 slick or 25L and 4.5 slick
20+ I ride 25L and 3.5 slick

65kg ride mostly sabfoil w1000 or w800 when there are waves.
Tried a few bigger foil wings for surf fuselage but didnt like the unnecessary drag.

Here is a clip starting on my lightwind 34L board:

Hmmm, not sure I find it "sound advice" for others...

You weigh 13-20 % less than average weights, and start to ride in winds where we can even waterstart a windsurf sinker board :o

I believe this is a very different world than most of us, as we often ride in less "easy" conditions.

So of course you can have a supersmall board in these high winds - but I doubt it would fit many riders.

You said it though - IF you only want to ride in high winds, yes it is possible.

Just not what I see others do

Yes I know we all drop the low end sessions when more experience, but going THIS high, I doubt many will do.

Meaning your starting winds corresponds to 16-20 knots, for average weights, which is a lot IMO.

Agree it is the fun winds, but doubt most will wait till so windy...

Eventhough we should ha haa :naughty:

So still 2 sinker boards just for winging!

Thank you is an inspiration for me to find out how to get past the barge I am riding. I wonder if the volume scales for a sinker board is 1/2 weight or 30 liters below weight.
