Balance Front-Back Foot pressure at different speeds?

Postby 1234567Simon » Fri Jan 21, 2022 7:24 pm

Dear All,

KiteFoiling:

Never tried another Foil, so I do Not know.

I ride with the Front Foot in the strap, and also Sometimes the Back Foot in the strap. But usually only Front Foot.

I adjusted my Foil Position, that at normal cruising Speed, I stand pretty balanced. So both feet same pressure.

When going slow I need more back foot pressure...
So after 5-6 linked Turns Heel to Toe and Toe to Heel my Muskels in the back leg start to "burn". So I need to Switch feet.

When going super fast I need to put almost 95% weight in the Front Foot.

question: is this normal? Is it with every Foil Like this?
Which Foil are you Riding?

This behavior is really stupid, after a slow jibe into a swell wave, and then shooting down the Wave Face. I need to shift my Body weight sooooo fast from Back Foot, to Front Foot, ... Sometimes I am Just to slow to keep the nose down.

Also when going super fast into a Turn, and suddenly loosing a lot of Speed, I really need to pay attention, Not to sink the nose.

(I have a Gong Foil, and I am super Happy, as it seems to be a great Foil for fast Progress.)

Thanks a Lot

Simon

True, the rear wing is set to "beginner" style, meaning it pulls down so quite stable and easy.

But it is bad when changing speed, so you need to shim the stab so it lifts less down.

If it can not be shimmed, you could try getting a smaller stab instead, will have a tad of the same effect.

Only problem will be, you have to stand even further back now - so if your back leg is burning, it will only get worse.
You have to move your straps further rear.

So yes, it is normal for many foils, but others are neutral and most experienced riders shim their foils to be more neutral.
