I usually put my phone on a water resistant bag when foiling further offshore, but within the 4G antenna limits. A couple of days ago, I've had some ads pushed on me by FaceBook offering some cheap (chinese) walkie talkie, PTT, Android, 4G, IP68 and a bunch of other letters that I have no idea what they mean and thought: "hey, maybe it could worth a try". Instead of risking to loose or drown a more expensive phone, I could carry something cheaper.
Does anyone have experience with these cheap Android phones that could just make a phone call in case of an emergency?
Here's just an example. In fact, there are zillions of models available...

I bought a Umidigi Bison, supposed to be waterproof, in the goal of having a phone on me for safety or to organize pick up after an impromptu downwinder, or to take pictures during my session.
First time I took it out, I couldn't operate it after my session. Touchscreen was erratic, and couldn't make a phone call... Once dried up, it worked again.
Second time, couldn't make a phone call either, the phone constantly detecting headphones being plugged in and out. After that, the phone wouldn't charge anymore. Had to get the USB port replaced under warranty. And I never took it in the water ever since. The phone might be waterproof, but if the headphone jack and the charging port aren't, then it's a bit pointless...
So it might be a better option to get an even cheaper non waterproof phone, and spend some of the difference on a quality waterproof pouch.

It's the type of experience I'd like to know before getting one of these...
On my last session I've found out, by accident, that my phone (Samsung Galaxy S20 FE) was water resistant as the pouch got punctured and the phone was submerged on salt water
it remained working but was impossible to interact with the screen due to the water.
The idea of a dedicated phone came to my mind also because it's hard to use the phone when it's covered by these plastic bags

I use a normal warter phone pouch but extra seal the phone with a non lubricated condom.
