My wish list: a lightweight construction like the AK Ether harness, but in the form factor of the Ozone connect back country, but with a bar and slider rope.

Disclaimer: not seen either of these harnesses IRL, so this is just speculation on what I would like...

You can get a treeclimbing harness.

I modified a petzl sequoia. It now weighs pretty much exactly 1kg and is super comfortable for foil and snow.

I tried a standard climbing harness, even adapted to take a harness hook bar (with the actual hook cut off), but the waist band was too narrow and made it too uncomfortable. The petzl sequoia looks much better, but over engineered for the job and very expensive (EUR350+)...but perhaps there are simpler climbing harnesses that have a wide waist belt...

I am also not sure if I would get the Petzl again, since I cut off most of its parts. It looks like there are other treeclimbing harnesses that could do the same job for less. If you want to use a rope anyway, the ropebridge does a better job than a spreader as long as you like a low hook point. I exchanged the rope with dyneema on mine.

I use a Dynabar slider with boardshorts. I love the metal slider, no strech or worrying about failing... Built like a battel ship

I’d like to copy this. Any link or instruction on how to tie on the ring. I just grabbed some 1/8” dyneema that seems like the right diameter.

I used two pigtails. Hitched the ring onto the first and hitched the second onto the spreader bar. Then just connected the two together. And then I doubled the whole thing for redundancy.
If that makes sense. I can try to get a picture tomorrow and upload it.

If you can take a picture I'd love to see it. I think I get what you did, though it is obviously a lot different than Jyoder. I think his is based on a couple prusiks.

GJibb, what does that setup do for you? A traditional rope slider can transfer the pull of the kite from one side of the rider's body to the other. So, for example, if you're riding toeside with a rope slider, you feel the pull of the kite on your upwind hip.

Your setup doesn't really do that. It seems to be more of an extension of the center lines of the kite. It maintains the pull of the kite at your midsection/navel (i.e., at the center of the spreader bar). I guess I'm not understanding the difference between your setup and a traditional spreader bar hook and chicken loop (except the center lines are a bit longer).

I use a similar set up, just a u-bolt on the spreader which the chicken loop is attached to. It keeps the pulling load close to your body, unlike the standard hook which projects out and you need to fight against when on toeside.

The advantage is that it allows for tacking, which is hindered when using a sliding hook. If you don’t tack, stay with the slider. But if your struggling learning to tack, try a fixed hook or similar, much easier.
