Sea Anchor Leash Atatchment System...

Postby Lamilu » Sat May 28, 2022 1:39 am

In light winds you need traction with the best of bouth hands free for relanch.
A harness attached leash dragging board and foil riding rearwise slightly down...
Maybe the same use in winging...
I heard to attach to rear foot strap if you have one...
Has anyone experimented?

A much more effective way to relaunch in light winds is to either sit on your board (if it is big enough) or to just place the board in front of you (downwind of you). When it is sideways between you and your kite, then put your feet underwater on the fuselage, one foot in front and one behind the mast. You then have both hands free, and can hold your bar above your board, and you can resist the pull of the kite with the foil which will greatly assist in light wind relaunching.

Got your point...
To sit is ok I guess, but stand on fuselage not sure.
In any case...dificult to actively swim to tension lines if necessary...
My hydrofoil sometimes flys on its own in downwind ocean swell...impossible to reach swimming...if separated from it.
Yesterday almost lost it...

I have the same problem at one island spot with crazy currents. If I drop the kite (peak) it will take me a while to relaunch and the board is gone.

I just use some cord from climbing with a carabiner stuffed in my harness. Then I get the board first, and attach the leash to a loop on the back insert before I start relaunch or swim to the kite.
I don't keep the leash attached while riding, it's only in case I need to relaunch or pack the kite in an emergency because the board is my only way back to shore at that point. So it can be a normal piece of rope, it helps if it floats so it doesn't get in the way of the foil or your legs.

I have the same system as ieism, a small loop of cord attached to the back of the board with an insert screw. A DIY leash on my harness that I only use when I need to keep the board from taking off downwind. I have tried sitting on the board. I have practiced. I can sit on a surfboard all day. Not my foil setup. It just won't stay balanced. Same for the feet on the fuselage idea. It just doesn't work with my rig. The extra leash works wonders. It does take time to attach and your Peak may not be re-launchable by then. Mine almost never is. My Peaks are wave magnets. If they touch the water, the first wave, usually within a second, swamps it!! First rule of Peaks - don't let it touch the water!!
