Cut resistant trousers

Postby abel » Sat May 28, 2022 7:27 pm

Anybody using cut resistant trousers for avoiding leg slashes by the foil?
Any recommendations?

I couldn't imagine such a bright reply :cheer: :cheer:

This is what a friend of mine got during his last session
I'm using trousers anyhow because of jelly fish, so if it will avoid deep slashes alongside, the better.

I'm sorry,
Then its probably too warm for a full wetsuit 4-5mm ish?
Did not yet have issues with the foil but got pulled couple of times over the directional board with sharp fins pointing up.
Did have cuts in the wetsuit but skin was fine, guess that neoprene takes away a lot of impact by its flexibility.

Only real cut resistant material I know is kevlar, cordura (nylon 6.6) is up there used also for motorcycle trousers.
What about the good old jeans?
Better than nothing maybe if everything else is too warm

Kite pants are so 2002 🤪🤣

Back then, a lot of guys were wearing some kind of track pants. Some companies were producing kite pants fashioned with the track pants look of the times too.

They make chaps for use with chainsaws, but that's probably overkill.

I find that I wear my full suit more often for foiling for the added protection. I also don't mind wearing it for the added warmth since I get chilled way earlier foiling due to working less.

Some of our launches have been taken over by Zebra Mussels. So, guys will wear whatever they have for added foot protection here too. Surf boots, five toe shoes, Swiss socks all help for zebra /foil protection.

A friend uses pants made by Zhik for dingy sailing ....... they are fairly $$$ . I have a pair of 0.5mm Level Six radiator paddling pants.

After getting hit by a man o' war I started wearing under armour tights anytime I went out. I think the next step is these guys:

I bought a set but haven't used them yet.

I think shoes are more important than pants. But even a very thin layer of neoprene would have avoided that wound. I wear 3mm boots and had a big slash that cut partly into it. I was sure I cut my foot open as I could feel blood flowing, but it turned out it was just water flowing in the boot and I was fine.

I've never got my leg on the foil, and I foil a lot. My forearm gets it when I'm shielding my head, but I wear 4mm most of the year. Finally an advantage to our shitty weather!

I am not a racer so i soften the tips of the foil with sand paper and a block. Some foils are so sharp i don't she the need. Skin is hard to replace and slow to heal.
