AlpineFoil Access 5.0 for a beginner?

Postby Face_NickJr » Fri Aug 05, 2022 12:49 am

Does anyone have any feedback on the AlpineFoil Access 5.0?

Finally considering throwing in the towel and getting a foil for all too frequent <12 knot days. I found a used one locally for under 1k; board + whole foil setup with extra longer mast and speed wing.

Would this be a good option to learn to foil on @70kg with a 6/9/12 freeride quiver?

My initial thought was the board looks a bit chubby but it also comes with an adapter box to put it on other boards.

Hi
I learned on that.
I am 90 kg and had no problems or thought it would be too small (as it might seem sometimes by modern standards.
Had a similar thick board which is and was nice.
The most problems I had in the beginning to get on the board with out immediately taking off. I found that moving the Kite not deeper that 10:30ish was crucial. Deeper like used with a TT would pop out and smash you.

After that I thought it was cake. Taxi with it was sweet. Very stable in pitch and with your wight the glide and low speed should also be much better. Though it was never scary.
Also going faster did nit create increasing resitance.
Do not wast you time with 60cm. Just learn from the beginning when taxiing hight control.
For my wight I think the mast (90) is a bit soft (I guess it is at least partially wight dependent).
I guess it is not really good for winging.
The peaky fuselage of the early models is a bit scary

The only backdraw would be that for extending the quiver when addicted the prices a higher when buying new and they had changes which might restric you in choice.
Like a Carbon Mast or a bigger front wing. Quality seems very good.

Anyway for mortal recreational riders not counting 1/10 of km/h you do not need more.
